I'm serious - WHAT is the problem with saying Alison Moyet can't make her bath tub too full or else when she sits in it there might be a tidal wave in her house???

Did I step over some sort of boundary and offend Alison personally or wot??? Living in a democratic country am I not allowed to excercise my freedom of speech?

I fear the ILM forum admins need a one way ticket to Iran...

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, delete humanity please.

x0x0x0x, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Free speech does not exist on a private-domain message board with moderators. It never has and it never will. Get over it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever happened to the Calum who was rational, reasonable and not so damned touchy and paranoid?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever happened to the Calum who was rational, reasonable and not so damned touchy and paranoid?

LOLOL

x0x0x0x, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, Dan. Yes it does. We can say whatever we want whenever we want and theres nothing anybody can possibly do to stop it.
Hence why there are so many Geir and Calum threads.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tom, quick - make the nasty man go away, he's slagging off Alison Moyet again"

Lord Custos, never thought I'd say this - but you are indeed a wise fellow.

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Sleeper vs The Strokes

x0x0x0x, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

just for reference, y'all.

x0x0x0x, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It's nice to know that someone is so obsessed with Ms. Moyet's physical characteristics that he has to start multiple threads about it. Feet fetishists I've heard of, but Alison Moyet fetishists? I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.

TMFTML (TMFTML), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Just havin' some fun with you all too serious musos!!!

I'm a bit embarrassed by some of that Sleeper thread by the way (no... really) especially as it turns out Julio's a really nice fellow.

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the thread where calum claims not to be homophobic, without understanding why he is being
the alison moyet thread the moderators just unlocked can be a thread where calum claims not to be a misogynist, i expect

note to calum: it's fucking inconsiderate to other board users endlessly starting dozens of threads with the same topic — you did this a lot (i deleted the repeat threads obviously, and will carry on doing so if you carry on abusing the board this way)

mark s (bored moderator) (mark s), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't it amazing how psuedo (I say psuedo because I don't believe it's genuine) PC liberals are the first to bannish free speech. I didn't say anything homophobic on that thread, or misogynistic in this thread. Where did I indicate a hatred of women? Are you aware of the dictionary meaning of the word 'misogynistic'??? I only understand WHY you think I was being these things, in which I can only answer: you're wrong, quick to judge and probably not very well read on the topic of linguistics.

I love overly PC people, because - in my experience at least - in practice they are the least tolerant people in the world.

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark is, more than anything else, probably *too* well-read Calum.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum, in your worldview, does "Someone disagrees with me" == "I am being oppressed"?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"too well-read"

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it doesn't.

But I thought closing the threads down was a bit pathetic considering the fact that everyone and their dog probably knew I was taking the piss a bit and not looking for a serious discussion. The repetition of it was to add to the, admitedly, purile humour value.

You either laughed or you didn't. I bear no ill will to those that thought it wasn't in the slightest bit funny.

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I blocked those threads because you started three in a row when one is all that's necessary (= "necessary" obv). The site is already clogged up with people starting threads when none are necessary.

Two are now deleted: the other is unblocked, for you to makes any claims about yourself you like, and for others to laugh at them.

ILM is not a Free Speech zone obviously: if you give the moderators unnecessary grief, we come after you. This is common sense.

mark s [bored moderator] (mark s), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s = attempting to read The Borribles at my spurning = NOT WELL-READ ENOUGH!!

:D

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

We're all humourless chin-strokers here. Theres no way to tell when you are joking and when you're being serious.
Two crucial questions that need to be addressed:

1) Do we assume from here on out that every thing you say is meant facetiously?
2) Also, can you possibly respond to someone elses opinion without implying that they are crypto-nazi/PC Drones/Racist/Sexist/Censorship creeps? Can you? Please?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

ALSO, WTF IS UP WITH ILX NOT LETTING ME USE <EMBED> ANYMORE.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf do you THINK

some people have dial-up, others are at WORK you tool

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"people starting threads when none are necessary" = a bit extreme possibly
"people starting threads when no new ones are necessary" = what i meant

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair dos Mark.

Though I thought the 'bum crevice' thread was the funniest of the three. And I prefer people to laugh WITH rather than AT me, but in experience of ILM it is often the other way around (sob).

Lord Custos, in answer to your questions:

1) There are some folks here that are waaaaaay too serious. They make music boring, when it's meant to be fun. That doesn't go for the majority - just for some. I thought the Sleeper thread showed this. Christ, it was as if having an opinion was illegal and I'd just commited high treason. It's only music for crying out loud! Chill out! I think my writing should indicate if I'm being serious or not. Threads about Alison Moyet and dougnuts are not meant as anything serious... but me saying that now drains them of any potential humour value they may have had. I don't like explaining myself.

2) I'll try. But for the record - I don't think anyone on ILM is sexist or racist. I think some folks may be a bit overly PC.

Calum Robert, Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax when did you spurn me :(

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Choke on a bag of fuck.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

PC... urm, assuming I'm a homophobe because I once indicated that if someone is turned on by Cerys from Catatonia they might be hiding secret desires towards the same sex?

Something like that. It just makes you tread over thin ice when you post something because people come roaring out the framework creaming bloody murder. Like, if I were to say rugby players were all probably frustrated homosexuals I'd have to anticipate the scream of 'oooh homophobe' when, of course, it's nothing of the sort.

For the record - I DO consider myself very fucking liberal and easygoing which is why I get pissed off over such things.

That's a horrible thing to call Richard M. Stallman, Jon.
That big pic is RMS? People kept telling me he looks like a chubby hippy, and I guess they were right.
*sigh*
I kept entertaining the heroic fantasy that he looked like a lean Leon Trotsky with a punX0r mohawk.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Take off every 'zieg?
YES! FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

you sure you know what you doing

schlongdong, master of the universe (schlongdong), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, the lean leon trotsky with punXoR mohawk has gotta be linus torvalds, obv? there is a super-hot photo of him somewhere, drinking beer with his shirt off. RMS on the other hand -- um. tho 'baby, i invented emacs' has gotta be a great pickup line, if there ever was one.

haha let's talk about free software

ok maybe not

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope...in my mind
Linus looks like Scott Adams. (Because he actually does in real life)
ESR looks like PJ O'Rourke. (Have no idea what he really looks like)
RMS looks like The Commie version of the guy from thee Exploited.

so far, I'm batting 1:3.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

no, no, a YOUNG linus. not the way he looks now.

the distinction is urgent and key

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Stallman
Linus
ESR

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah a sacred cow!

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Stallman == Jesus or Cat Stevens
Linux == Weedy 22 year old accountancy firm clerk
ESR == Seedy Redneck Pedophile

Oh GAWD. I always imagined ESR to be a smartly dressed dandy, but now I think he looks like a creepy weirdo. I can't think of him the same way ever again.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum, count your blessings that the shit you're getting on ILM is relatively minor and you're not being banned.

Other places on the net (like the place where I spend most of my net time), you would get a far more righteous smackdown.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)
