Songs that take off and end too quickly.

As a companion piece to this thread (Songs that don't even get off the ground), please cite some songs that cruelly fade out right when they're cookin'.

My first choice: "Beyond Belief" by Elvis Costello.

"Hey You!" by Mensen, which could easily go on for about 25 minutes without me getting sick of it.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

This might make Nickalicious happy: "Deep Inside" by Fishbone rocks mightily but is over so swiftly it makes my head spin.

"Destroy the Heart" by The House of Love has always felt truncated.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"Pirate Cowboy" by the Deadly Snakes. I seriously cannot get enough of this song, and have been known to put it one single-track repeat until my GF kicks me in the ass.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bank Holiday" by Blur does that to me. "What do you mean, it's already over? I demand more!"

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You could argue that all songs should edge to the shortest possible length because it's always preferable to play a too-short track more than once than to have to put in the energy to stop and over long track.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy it has made me Alex. Another Fishbone song that ends way too quickly = "Simon Says".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sexy Sadie" faded out as George was playing a cool lead part.
One of many times that he was screwed over like that.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 28 April 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Word" courtesy the Beatles - I want that organ solo for more than the 15 seconds they tease me with it. Darnit!

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Wladimir's March by Vlad Tepes.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The Wedding Present's "Drive" kind of ends abruptly.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i borrowed the lo-fidelity allstars first album off someone a while ago,and i remember not being too impressed, except for the first track, which was great but only about a minute long...

HYBRID MOMENTS!!! Did Ally and Alex in NYC suddenly turn forgetful???

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Good call, Yance. Still, so much hardcore Punk is swift/terse/short by design (witness say, "Deny Everything" by the Circle Jerks and practically everything by the Descendents,....to say nothing of the Ramones).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 April 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Another Green World by Brian Eno

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

'brown eyes' by red house painters

so many red house painters songs go on forevvvvverrr (which is okay, 'cos some of those are very good) but 'brown eyes', an incredibly moving/beautiful song, tragically is almost over before it begins...but i guess that's in keeping with the spirit of the song, somehow

Dallas Yertle (Dallas Yertle), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Crystal Crescent" by Primal Scream. Lovely bit of janglepop that feels like its a chorus and 2 or 3 verses too short!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"Velocity Girl" by Primal Scream is a better choice.

Evan (Evan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeru's verse on I'm the Man by Gangstarr

HYBRID MOMENTS!!! Did Ally and Alex in NYC suddenly turn forgetful???

That entire album could turn itself into prog-rock-length opuses (opi?) and I'd be fucking happy. "Attitude" is also too short. It is because of this issue that I have to play both songs 40 times over before going on to the next one.

AND OF COURSE I DON'T HAVE IT AT WORK TODAY, FUCK.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hendrix: Little Wing. And what's with those bells anyway?

Jay K (Jay K), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Evan: I was in two minds as to wether to nominate "crystal crescent" or "velocity girl" :)

So I'll say: all PS's early work!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Venus And Mars" by Paul McCartney. Could have been one of his best ballads, and then, after just a minute, it suddenly becomes "Rock Show" instead, without ever coming to conclusion as the beautiful ballad that it sounded like.
