what do i call my music website?

Serious question. My beloved Analog Roam is offline right now because of... well, because I owe my server a whole lot of money. Nevermind the details. After this debales is over, I'm thinking of starting a new domain. The website name was way too long before, anyway, being just an extension of another domain name, and going so far as to include an underline in the web address (death!). And the name itself only just got passed on the rule that you can name a website anything.

But I smell opportunity. Maybe an excuse to start anew. But I need a name, and I need a web address. Nothing too long. Nothing that says, "I'm just another stupid blogger trying to look cool by naming my site something obscure." Something that expresses real joy over music. Real enthusiasm. Nothing snarky. Nothing brainy. Nothing insider. I'm kinda stumped.

But I had a couple ideas. I could, of course, stick with the tried and true. "Analogroam.net" isn't altogether apalling. "Exclamationpoint.org" might be fun, with a big purple

!

logo. But anything I misspelled the first time while searching for it is probably not the best choice. "Rapedbymusic.com" amuses the hell out of me for some reason, but what would the logo look like?

You see where I'm going with this. Idea me.

debales = debacle

I am the king of mis-typing!

Analogpress.org is available. I love the weirdness of online entities calling themselves a press without any physical paper product.

msp and I used to have big plans for Hallmonitor.org, but nothing ever came of it. It's once again available (as well as .net) for anyone who wants it.

paul cox (paul cox), Saturday, 3 May 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. Especially "Analogpress." It's neither/nor.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 3 May 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok. By entering suggestions from the "overlooked genres" thread and the "overused music journo terms" thread, I have come up with this much:

warmandpunchy.com
boyhowdy.org
buttrock.org (uh... no.)
harmolodics.com
illmo.net

Creem might have something to say about "boyhowdy.org".

I was bummed out that both rockist.com and rockism.com are taken. WTF?

paul cox (paul cox), Saturday, 3 May 2003 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

balls2thewall.com

Oh, give him a home where the analog roams ...

I already miss you site, Kenan. Come back soon. I'm lousy at names or I'd toss one at you -- should have music in the title someplace, I think.

Pop Death?

Nice. How about, "pop coma"?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 3 May 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

and "rockist.net" is still available. Slogan: "Maintain the pop. Don't stop the rock."

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 3 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"pop coma" looks too much like "popcorn a" when mashed altogether in url form.

Good news, though. kenansmagicalforest.com is available.

paul cox (paul cox), Saturday, 3 May 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)
