Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Curtis's list was from googlism - if you haven't tried it, it's a laugh. Type your own name in and see what comes up.

Punk Roc was a DJ. He should be on the 'History Has Erased Them' thread.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

punk rock was the natural evolutionary result of the mainstream popularity of bands like the Eagles, Wings, ELO, Kansas, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Disco, Trucker/CB music and most people not being able to afford cocaine to go with their white polyester suits and platform shoes, in the 70's
now it lives in a shopping mall in East Rutherford New Jersey

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh fucking christ, not this again.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i hear you, sista.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Seeing that array of albums just reminds me of how female performers were rarely given the time of day then, unfortunately. It's like a bit of cognitive dissonance looking at that now where fifteen years ago I might have gone, 'hey, cool,' maybe. I dunno -- I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, Alex, just realizing how things have hopefully changed for the better/should continue to improve.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, there is simply no pleasing some folks.

I'm not putting down the Slits, `cos they never really mattered to me. And I'm not citing Patti Smith, `cos she ain't nothin' but an overrated, sanctimonious barefoot hippie.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I am baffled by the lack of Avril's ironic joke presence on this thread. The cycles indeed...

Rick Aranga, Thursday, 8 May 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

ok fine give the people what they want:

an oblique esthetics of materialism in becoming i.e. pink but not no doubt, the first half of "come away with me" but not eric dolphy, sum 41 but not good charlotte (not that they need to be punk anyway because fuck that) ja rule's first battle-rap vs. 50 cent, but not his second (even though his second is better -- ppl. must track this down) and John Fahey's Red Cross (again ppl MUST track this down but not City Of Refuge (again tho it is, in some respects, better).

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 8 May 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, like GG Allin and Avril Lavigne are two different people...

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 8 May 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally's the only one making sense here.

Kris (aqueduct), Thursday, 8 May 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that always the case?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 May 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT PUNK IS? PUNK IS CRAZY!" -The Weirdos

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 8 May 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Punk is not sexual. It's just aggression. 10-4 old buddies. De-stroy. Kill all hippies.

Well, at least that's what Bobby says.

I'll side with Alex in this case. But then i often do.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Thursday, 8 May 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 9 May 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that some sort've haiku?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 9 May 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish it was, but I fucked up the syllables.
What's that other restrictive Japanese poetic style?
I think I fucked that up too.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Cutting off your arm with a pocket knife and then hikig 10 kilometres for help is pretty punk rock.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Spelling "hiking" wrong is also pretty punk rock, as is the Canadian spelling of "kilometre".

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 9 May 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

dunno, but my old housemate james used to say that
