There's this local outdoors techno festival in july that sounds quite promising. Apart from the weather being a consideration, I'm not sure if I should go...so here's your chance to talk me into it. And if I should go, which DJs should I definitely see (apart from the obvious headliners)?

lineup:

Adam Beyer
Chris Liebing
Dave Clarke
DJ Rush
Jeff Mills
Alter Ego (live)
Legowelt (live)
Pacou (live)
Alexander Kowalski/Raz O'Hara (live)
Ben Sims

Gayle Sam
Marco Remus

Angela Flame
Dr. Lektroluv

that looks a pretty good line up, i'd be interested in seeing legowelt, who ive only just heard (discussion here)

but a lot of the others too, link?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I'd go to that Siegbran. I finally have a reason to be jealous of germans...

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is it?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Renato Cohen!

I only know Pentape but if ever there was a techno song to blare out of a fast car then Pentape is it.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

It's somewhere near Amsterdam. So Jacob, you'll need to find another reason to be jealous of Germans...although: Mayday, Loveparade, Nature One, Timewarp...

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

is that I Love Techno?

Randall Helms (RPH), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I just saw Legowelt and TLR in Los Angeles. It was excellent though a bit more low-key than "Disco Rout" in general.

I would go just to see Dave Clarke/DJ Rush/Jeff Mills. Especially DJ Rush, his "Motherfucking Bass" might be my favorite track from last year.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Nono, it's Awakenings. Thing is, ever since money isn't really an problem for me anymore (well, for these things at least), I've been enjoying big events more and more compared to regular clubbing, there's more variety. I would love a festival that has good trance, electro, house, techno, drum 'n bass, progressive AND hardstyle/hardhouse DJs. The fact that Legowelt/Alien/TLR/Lektroluv are on the festival above is a big plus, I will definitely get bored by fourteen hours of only earbleeding minimalist techno.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

well at fourteen hours that lineup must be split into what, four or five areas? how did they divvy up the djs? who made the big room, and who's playing at peak time?

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

god, this reminds me, in 1997 i had to pick between dj sneak and basement jaxx at a big party - i picked sneak! then i fucked up and saw coldcut instead of 4 hero! doh!!!

I don't know the timetables, but you can check out the areas at www.awakenings.nl. I just made a little list of interesting big multistage festivals in my area this summer, and things are really looking good:

4 Elements (24/5 Holland)
DefQon 1 (14/6 Holland)
Riverdance (21/6 Holland)
Impulz Outdoor (28/6 Holland)
Ruhr In Love (28/6 Germany)
Awakenings (5/7 Holland)
Sensation White (5/7 Holland)
Love Family Park (6/7 Germany)
Berlin Loveparade (12/7 Germany)
Sensation Black (12/7 Holland)
I Love Techno Outdoor (19/7 Belgium)
Extrema Outdoor (19/7 Holland)
Sound/Vision (26/7 Holland)
Dance Valley (2/8 Holland)
Nature One (1-3/8 Germany)
Sonne Mond Sterne (8-10/8 Germany)
FFWD Danceparade (9/8 Holland)
Frequence (16/8 Holland)
Lovefields (17/8 Holland)
Mysteryland (23/8 Holland)
Decibel Outdoor (30/8 Holland)

New festivals keep coming up every year, it's insane...all of these events have lineups to die for, no wonder that the clubs are screaming bloody murder at the moment.

if you're going to a festival in holland i would recommend the free technival parties, but if you do go to the one listed above, make sure to see steve rachmad and surgeon...

robin (robin), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we might be going over for Dance Valley, we went two years ago and it was a fantastic party (marred only by disastrous transport disorganisation at the end).

Randall Helms (RPH), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Well be quick to get tickets soon (I've already got them, yay!), because the festival was sold out months in advance last year.

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 17 April 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

If outdoor festivals are your thing, Awakenings is on 3 July this year. Also: Extrema on 17 July.

On 16-20 July, there's a 5 day festival in the Melkweg (indoor Amsterdam venue) 5 Days Off which looks great too (not only techno: LCD Soundsystem, T Raumschmiere, Tiga, Ritchie Hawtin, Audio Bullys, Chicks On Speed, Metro Area, DJ Sneak, 2 Many DJ's, Marky & XRS etc).

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 18 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

how about outdoor festivals in germany? i recall reading here on ilm that the love parade is cancelled this year.

tricky disco (disco stu), Sunday, 18 April 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Nature One, Love Family Park, Sea Of Love, Antaris, Christopher Street Parade...
