stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

VHS or Beta is kinda like a disco-y trance-y house music band with guitars and vocoders and drums and stuff. Their live sets are killer, no "between songs" nonsense, just non-stop music.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

What is DMFMK's relationship to KMFDM, if any?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

camera obscura
barcelona
suicide
Six Finger Satellite reunion
Atom & His Package

this would be a sick fest.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

camera obscura has some ok stuff, but I know "EVERYTHING ON GSL SUXXXXXXX"

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Live, Mouse On Mars use this really great drummer. Gives the songs a totally different feel. Def. recommended if they're touring in the near future.

original bgm, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen CO live? They were great when I saw them in 2001, far better than the album, which I also like OK. (What have they done since then?)

Radiohead, obv.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

MDFMK is actually just sascha and tim skold with some chick singer. since en esch, gunter, and raymond weren't involved, they decided to change the name.
i would have to agree with jon concerning chicks on speed and particularly quintron, as i live in new orleans and have the pleasure of being able to see him live more often. also theres another band here called glory bee that mixes rock, electronic, hip hop, klezmer, r&b and whatever else they can get their hands on.
the now defunct atari teenage riot
cornelius
radiohead

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my god I miss Atari Teenage Riot SO MUCH! Their music was like adrenaline on speed getting in a knife-fight with uncontrollable destructive urges on fire! RAWR!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh! Ooh! Does Gonzales count? He bloody should. And Peaches too, I suppose.

And Maximilian Hecker? He's the world's only softrocktronica artist I believe...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Peaches is pushing it.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Peaches could just play "Rock Show" and then wander off.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

People are confusing two different bands named Camera Obscura... one is a since-defunct synth-punk band that put stuff out through Troubleman and Insound, and the other Camera Obscura is a twee European band whose debut was produced by Stuart Murdoch from Belle and Sebastian.

Ben Boyer, Wednesday, 18 June 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

KMFDM became MDFMK but is now KMFDM again.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

New Order and Gary Numan (frozen from about 1983-5 and 1978-1979 respectively).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Martini Bros (in their guitar-strapped live incarnation they are the absolute pinnacle of this idea)
Tok Tok v Soffy O

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 19 June 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

electronica/rock hybrid!! Oh this is a great idea why don't we legitimize the practice of playing guitar and singing over a drum machine just like we used to when we had that shitty cover band and had no space for a drummer in Larry's spare bedroom! See this new techno music, this drum and bass, see, it's got SAMPLES and such in it what we can use to make the drum machine SOUND BETTER and we can cover up our complete lack of songwriting talents by replacing MELODIES with STRRRRANGE NOISES like all 'bzow bzow' and 'doo dee deep' you see, people will think it's cool to come see us play live because we will be yelling and banging on guitars like normal but we'll have BIG BASS BEATS offa these Big Beat 200 sampling CDs Martin got from the store he works at. It's the new thing, kids are all over it. Let's prep before URB calls us up in case the fucker asks us how our music is different from 'Industrial' or any other old electronic music

My suggestions:
Prodigy
Rammstein
Rob Zombie
Marilyn Manson
Fatboy Slim
Depeche Mode
The Transplants
Robert Palmer
Duran Duran

Of course the headliner for this festival would be Billy Idol, no questions asked

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 19 June 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Linkin Park

Dan I., Thursday, 19 June 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

If Peaches isn't there I'm not going.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 19 June 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, you need to cool out.

David Allen, Thursday, 19 June 2003 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

um, gary numan is still a going rocktronica concern. his schtick circa 1978-1981 ain't his current schtick, but he's no less "rocktronica" now than he's ever been.

and i draw everyone's attention to this thread (hem hem): ZZ TOP: Eliminator and Afterburner

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 19 June 2003 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)
