Love the search function, Leee. It loves you, after all.

five years pass...

"Hunted By A Freak" just came along and punched me in the gut

("Kids Will Be Skeletons" is the best track and maybe Mogwai's best track, but my oh my I've needed to hear this one again)

It or Rock Action, aye.

I tend to go back and forth between this one & the Ten Rapid comp. A lot of their best material is hidden in their EPs, tho.

We should do a Mogwai EPs poll.

I still don't have Ten Rapid. EP+6 is overrated IMO

EP+6's problems are neatly summed up by "Stereodee". On paper it should be awesome, and the first 5 minutes or so are flat-out amazing (ditto the last minute) but in between it doesn't really go anywhere...the definitive Mogwai noise freakout is Like Herod (Gvt Comms live version) or maybe Ex-Cowboy and they did it far better than anything on EP+6 IMO

xpost: Ah, I'll have to respectfully disagree. I love the 4 Satin EP (which, I believe, is included in the EP+6 comp), especially, & "My Father, My King."

MFMK separately, that is.

"Superheroes of BMX" is really pretty good, and I have a weakness for "Small Children" and "Rage:Man". Don't listen to that stuff very much tho.

Still don't have MFMK either, which is an aberration.

EP+6 totally fucked up EP+2 (their best release) by shuffling the order and slapping boring-ass non EP+2 tracks on there. so, yeah, it is overrated because you have to wade through 6 tracks to get to the good stuff

xpost: lol I was writing this as you posted - Though I tend toward ambient, textured Mogwai over LOUDquietLOUD Mogwai, I absolutely love the paint-peeling RAWK of "Superheroes of BMX."

Re: Ten Rapid - go and download "Summer," if you don't seek out the whole thing right away. The big rock breaks textured with xylophone loops is teh awesomeness.

cheers for that

I'm slightly going off olde-Mogwai these days. Maybe it'll simply take a good hard listen. But I rarely stick the first two records on, and when I do, it's usually for Tracy or CODY or Y2KN-CC or Y!IIALWFH if I want the quiet-loud fix. That one song makes a lot of the rest of their early stuff redundant IMO. It's both a mission statement and the completed mission.
