No love for 'The Writ'?...

"The Writ" may actually be my #1, and really feels to me like their "final song" (though I really like some of the subsequent songs with Ozzy, especially on Never Say Die). I mean that it wraps up the Sabbath narrative for me, like the credits can roll on their story as it fades out.
Their other, actual final song, "Dear Father" on 13, doesn't offer the same kind of transcendence but might be truer to the dejected Sabbath spirit.

I also have to mention "Blow On a Jug" somewhere.

"megalomania" deserves waaaay more love. the iommi riff 3 minutes or so in onward is everything i want in a song length that's going to commit to being 5+ minutes.

Despite having their worst album cover Sabotage is amazing. That 6 album run from their debut up to Sabotage is essential imho

I will defend that album cover to my dying day. Paranoid, less so.

had Supernaut stuck in my head for the last two days, and thats good! it was also the first sabbath song played at Back To The Beginning (by Mastodon) and that RULED.

Never been a fan of the Paranoid cover. I think the Sabotage just perfectly catches where the band was at in their career/lifestyle choices.

technical ecstasy is a pretty terrible album cover and a worse title

I just did the run up to Sabotage most of today and only disliked Sabbath Bloody Sabbath where they do "experiments" and it really rubs me up the wrong way. What carries it through is Ozzy's voice..."Changes" (to go on about things that aren't purely on the metal side) is kinda sweet and unexpected and totally fits in with the carnage in vol.4

Played a bunch this weekend in the car and in my neighbors garage with decent speakers, the drums the bass the guitar the drums!

The iron man riff doesn’t affect me at all these days but I remember the first couple times I heard it, it seemed really heavy. Now I understand it was because it has the V on the downbeat

Fairies Wear Boots was a favorite from the very first time I picked up the Paranoid album. Like I saw that song title and was like lol alright lads whats all this about and as soon as it started (well, with the Rat Salad lead in you can’t go wrong) i was locked in.

Still a fucking bop. Pogoed around the kitchen to it the afternoon Ozzy died
