SARStock: Dream duets?

Okay, next week in Toronto is, um, The Molson Canadian Rocks For Toronto Concert starring The Rolling Stones. The lineup was hyped to sound a lot better than it could've been, but it still has some gems and I was more than happy to shell out $20 for it. All the newspapers around here have been gossiping about rumours that there'll be a lot of duets, guest performances, stuff like that. Personally, I can't wait to hear Justin Timberlake and the Stones do Sympathy for the Devil -- imagine a mixtape with that beside Britney's Satisfaction!

The final list is:

the Rolling Stones
AC/DC
Rush
The Guess Who
Justin Timberlake
Blue Rodeo
The Tea Party
Sam Roberts
Flaming Lips
Kathleen Edwards
Isley Brothers
La Chicane
Sass Jordan
Dan Akroyd, Jim Belushi and the Have Love Will Travel Revue
"and more"

..I don't know much about Kathleen Edwards or La Chicane, any fans out there with recommendations?

Downsview Park roll call

This would have been a killer concert 25 years ago.
Otherwise, its well meant and featuring Canadian beef but its House of Blues presentation so they can go to hell.

uh, so I was reading today that they've raised a whopping $400,000 for the relief fund.

You guys are a real bunch of weenies. Who really gives a crap anyways?/ the show is the stones. Plain and simple, the rest are window dressing.

The show is the crowd, the Rolling Stones are just senoir citizens.

― Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

The show is far away from me and the Rolling Stones make me yawn.

― Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm sorry but ac/dc owns this show. we've got muchmusic on the t.v. here at work and half the folks the muchmusic drones talk to are there to salute those who rock.

― dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, if I was going it would for AC/DC
the Stones are a joke that everybody gets. Even Rick the Temp.

― Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

It seems the majority of the crowd at Sarstock (at least the first humdred or so rows) was relatively young in age considering the band line-up. I think a lot of the boomers like myself perferred to watch the Stones in our airconditioned living rooms in front of our big screen T.V.s - maybe a bit of "been there, done that". BUT when they televised the last part of the Stones' set --BOY OR BOY- did I wish I was there!!

The Star is making me wish I had seen AC/DC on TV but otherwise, huzzah hurrah now its Caribanna and I might have a quiet neighbourhood for once.

― Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

how'd they get sass jordan?

Sass Jordan will play anytime, anywhere if you pay her.
We had a Sass Jordan and Trooper concert in 96 out east.

― Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 July 2003 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

the better question is WHY'd they get Sass the Ass?

― Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 31 July 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I was offered tickets to this show by three or four different people who had ended up with extras. Thought about it, but I've seen both the Stones and AC/DC in the past, where they belong.
The Flaming Lips would have been cool, but they only had a 15-minute slot. I saw some interview clips with the audience on MuchMoreMusic and CBC Newsworld and it made me happy that I didn't go.

I'm so sick of hearing people whining "waaaahhh! I wasn't air conditioned" - fuck them all, I had a lot more fun than I would have if I'd seen any of the bands in some restricted seating "arena." It was awesome, it was an experience no one who went will forget, and I didn't see anyone complaining during the day - only one the way home, when they were tired and had to walk, and the next day, by other people saying "Well I'm glad I wasn't there." So are we!

― Alexis (Alexis), Thursday, 31 July 2003 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I was there, don't get me wrong I am not whining, it was an experience but not a completely pleasant one. My idea of a good time is not sitting in a sun filled parking lot with 500,000 other people not being able to see the bands I paid to see in person. I basically paid $20 and travelled 4 hours to watch it on a big screen TV. I was pleasantly surprised at how well behaved most people were even while stepping on your blankets. At least I can say I was there.

i was really excited about justin, and he managed to get exactly three songs in, as well i was deeply upset that sam roberts got more work.
