ATTTTTAAAACCCCKKKKKKK!!

There are some good tracks here, but Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys are the two groups most often used as token hip-hop entries on rockist best-of lists. It could use more variety.

for every right band there's a wrong song, and even my indie-addled brain would put a damn sight more electronica/dance in there.

props for the McCarthy mention though

for every right band there's a wrong song...
Really? Hmmmm. Give us examples.

i wouldn't personally have chosen these songs, they're not bad (excepting the horrible horrible lyrics of the Badly Drawn Boy one) but just not a track that would ever come to mind when compiling a list like this:

stereolab "la boob oscillator" from "Switched On Volume II" 1993
the chills "rolling moon" from "kaleidoscope world" compilation LP
the la's "way out" from "The La's" 1990 LP
big star "the ballad of el goodo" from "No 1 Record" 1971 LP
badly drawn boy "you were right/i was wrong" from 2003 LP "Have You Found the Fish?"
luna "indian summer" from Indian Summer EP 1993
mccarthy "now's the time for an iron hand" from LP "Banking, Violence and the Inner Life Today" 1990 LP
mercury rev "goddess on a highway" from "Deserter's Songs" 1998 LP
