Say Something Deeply Personal About Metallica "Harvester of Sorrow"

Why do ppl think 'infanticide' is such an evil evil crime? What's the difference between that and abortion? One's just like a tumor and the other is a noise and shit machine, neither have achieved any significant form of sentience so if some chick realises she can't handle the responsibility and smothers it in a blanket or drowns it, as long as it hasn't learned to do anything except shit'n'scream what's the problem, she'd probably only abuse it later or it would grow into a glue-eating superpredator with parents like that anyway. Plus they do it in the PRC all the time, anybody who thinks I'm sick and evil, clear all those cheap widgets out of your house now, they're probably made by human organ-donator factories who get kicked in the stomach by their line managers whenever they start to 'show' and the 100%-unused (perfect!) kidneys and corneas go to ppl who actually can use them! Parts from stem-cells or from the ones who just made it under the wire and escaped the uterus, what's the big difference. Also (the 'personal' bit) it seems like a bigger waste not to harvest those corneas'n'kidneys than to do what the last few sex partners I had did which was to take an RU-486 and hemorrhage everything out the next day. That's 'last' in every sense probably because the only reason I got to fuck them in the first place is that my inflexible refusal to use any prophylactic devices dovetailed with their 'reckless'(ie subconsiously intentional) desire to get knocked up (which happens increasingly as one gets older and the chicks get more desperate, double-reinforcing the 'last' bit) until their little idyll is smashed the next morning when I tell them I won't speak to them ever again until they join me in a game of 'loads' with a bowl of a) RU-486 b) Ritalin c)cyanide ha ha no fashion accessory but willing to have your insides polluted with genetic garbage like mine means they probably shouldn't only be sterilised but institutionalised! Anyway how's your breakfast?

(also how come the 1st half of the gtr solo is so great and the 2nd half sucks so bad)

My Life Suffocates
Planting Seeds of Hate
I've Loved, Turned to Hate
Trapped Far Beyond My Fate
I Give
You Take
This Life That I Forsake
Been Cheated of My Youth
You Turned this Lie to Truth

Anger
Misery
You'll Suffer unto Me

Harvester of Sorrow
Language of the Mad
Harvester of Sorrow

Pure Black Looking Clear
My Work Is Done Soon Here
Try Getting Back to Me
Get Back Which Used to Be
Drink up
Shoot in
Let the Beatings Begin
Distributor of Pain
Your Loss Becomes My Gain

Anger
Misery
You'll Suffer unto Me

Harvester of Sorrow
Language of the Mad
Harvester of Sorrow

All Have Said Their Prayers
Invade Their Nightmares
See into My Eyes
You'll Find Where Murder Lies

Infanticide

Harvester of Sorrow
Language of the Mad
Harvester of Sorrow
Language of the Mad
Harvester of Sorrow

also how come the 1st half of the gtr solo is so great and the 2nd half sucks so bad

Because it starts out following that laidback tempo in a great way, and ends up in fretboard wankery (again proving that Metallica always sucked when playing fast).

So why was the slow-ass 'Black' album SOOOOOOO boring then

dave q, Monday, 25 August 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(probably because they had all stopped drinking and had KIDS by then)

dave q, Monday, 25 August 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, "boring riffs they would've thrown away three years earlier" might also have something to do with it.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Was never a favorite of mine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 25 August 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

TS in the 'bore me thusly' debate: "Harvester of Sorrow" vs. "The God That Failed."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

First riff I ever learned on guitar.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw them play it at Reading last night! Yay!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a 3-on-3 basketball double-elimination tournament at my 8th grade field day. I was on a team called the Harvesters of Sorrow, and we got our asses resoundingly beat, losing our two straight games in humiliating fasion.

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Despite some bad aspects (terrible lyrics, Hetfields thin vocals), it's still my favourite song on the album. One of the few occasions where they expanded on a riff with a few variations. Metallica usually just repeated riffs ad nauseam without doing much with them.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It's immediately dwarfed on that album by the awesome Frayed Ends of Sanity (pirate chants!).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Watching the live version Harvester of Sorrow in Moscow is truly one of the most intense musical experiences of my life.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's the BASS on that album?

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

They found it after it was released, and decided to put twice as much on the 'Bleccchhh' album to compensate! Ha ha, I made a funny

dave q, Monday, 25 August 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

All the bass they could find ended up in the kick drums.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Dear Stones Fan,

It has just been announced that Metallica will be the special guest for the Rolling Stones as part of their "A Bigger Bang" World Tour at SBC Park in San Francisco on November 13th and 15th!

!!!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 5 August 2005 06:09 (twenty years ago)

I can't listen to any Metallica song that talks of "harvesting" any more.

Edward Bax (EdBax), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm lovin' Harvester of Sorrow!

I'd totally see the Stones+Metallica

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 5 August 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I once thought the refrain was
"harvester of sorrow
manager of pain"
