1001 Interstellar Psychedelic Recordings Of The 1960's

(oh, and feel free to finish the psych thread. we got lazy cuz we smoke too much.)

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeh click on Scott's tripline everbodeh. Can't much improve on that. But don't forget Sun Ra, Coltrane, John McLauglin's DEVOTION, ANOTHER GREEN WORLD, and personally back in the day I used to consult Dyl's Jorgy Porgy Boarhaze, AKA JOHN WESLEY HARDING quite a bit. (THis being several summers after the Summer of Love, also auditioned Black Sab's first,UMMAGUMMA, IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING, Cactus' 'OT AND SWEATY, and Bloodrock's DOA. Stay away from Moody Blues though!)But also Ornette's Lebanese Blond-worthy CRISIS, and SCIENCE FICTION (Indian-Indian Fe vocals a generation before Bollywood chic and rap "samples", plus "Rock The Clock" which I added to my own mix of NEW YORK NOISE, feat. Charlie Haden's upright bass through the best wah-wah ever wahhhhed, not to mention serenade in instrumental tongues [Ornette a Witness way before Lester Bangs, David Thomas, Michael Jackson etc.])Most any Miles, it seems. I'm told that, back in the 50s,folks used to trip to Stan Kenton's CITY OF GLASS, composed by Bob Graettinger. This of course was yer original legal LSD-25. But on the sonically- and track-expanded CD version ( Capitol Jazz 7243 8 32084 2 5), seems a need is created for a new drug (and movie) to be created, worthy of tripping to this music. Or you could just listen, on *good* headphones. (the phrase "phosphorescent skyscrapers" comes to mynd, but is not worthy!) Good discussion of this ,and some other such musical awareware, in John Litweiler's jazzbook THE FREEDOM PRINCIPLE.

Don Allred, Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

a lot of these are drug-related too. and we finished this one! cuz we were on noise drugs that make you move around real fast. (plus i wasn't so grandiose and kept it to 500. see, the smoke again.)

500 Greatest Extreme/Noise Albums Of All Time!

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

why doesn't Scott Seward hang out on the noise board?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i lurk sometimes. but the big pictures make my old computer sad.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i will start threads on there though when i hear stuff that is suitably noisy. i promise. i love the high-art concept of the noize board.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

oh good! i'm kind've glad the noise board has turned into something other than just a fraternity (though that aspect of it is still kind've funny.)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Sunday, 22 August 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of noise (I'll visit when this thunderstorm stops stalking my non-wireless noisemaker), Sonny and Linda Sharrock's BLACK WOMAN was always a good follow-up to the contemperaneous (ca.1969/70) female saying:"Having a baby is like shitting a watermelon." But in a good way (baby x this album=results!)
