what are your thoughts? this kills the bobby digital albums. he's takin it back to the conspiracy theory days.

jason b, Friday, 3 October 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

why does it kill the bobby digital albums?

minna (minna), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(i like it btw but i also like bobby digital)

minna (minna), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

disappointing. there are some top notch songs ("we pop", the day/god one, the whisper..), but on the whole it's a letdown. just a bit better than the bobby digital albums (which weren't even that bad either).

he can do much better.

adam west (adamwest), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it was originally gonna be called THE CURE but the abbott changed it bcz of his beef with ned and dan

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

better beats and more intelligible lyrics. that said, crushing bobby digital translates into an ok lp. bobby was abhorrent.

jason b, Friday, 3 October 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

This is teknikly not The Cure. I always thought The Cure was an album title with no songs or ideas, the holy grail for time-warped rap fans.

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

grr bob digi was fucking brilliant

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

amd holocaust silkworm is the best cloudy menace wu track of all time

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 3 October 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a bold clam. Better than Sparkle by U-God?

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant "Soul Dazzle."

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ok dude i want you to be totally honest with me-- are you u-god posting under an alias?!

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

More seriously, what about Black Shampoo? Although Supa Nigga is definitely a classic song, off a classic album.

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Friday, 3 October 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, want to hear something really good? check out the soul position (rjd2 & blueprint) "8 Million Stories" lp. so far this is the best hip hop album i've listened to this year.

jason b, Friday, 3 October 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, can someone give this to me please?

Michael Ng (Mike Ng), Friday, 3 October 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"i like it btw but i also like bobby digital"

that sounds so tepid but i hate talking about albums when ive had them for like less than a day. i should say tho that i got a thrill hearing this record the first time and that i really like both bobby digital records a lot! the second one probably even more than the first.

why does everyone hate bobby digital?

minna (minna), Friday, 3 October 2003 07:12 (twenty-two years ago)

michael i have it my slsk username is girlthursday

minna (minna), Friday, 3 October 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I left my promo copy of this on the bus.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 3 October 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

bobby is great, especially the second one. i hope this is better than the hay he fed us with 'The World' or whatever the last one was called. yurcks! (is it?)

Jay Kid (Jay K), Friday, 3 October 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been enjoying this record a lot. The first five tracks are hot shit (Fast Cars has the best beat on the album, except for maybe Grits, too bad it's not RZA's), and the last four sparse, more philosophical tracks are great. The middle is kinda plodding and meh.

The chorus on Cherry Range (or maybe it's The Birth) is uncomfortably reminiscent of MC Hammer's Addams Groove.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 October 2003 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, this is a pretty damn good record. RZA totally brings it to the table here. Most of the beats are good; except for the Megahertz one. RZA sounds great on the mic as always - but he tends to have too many shatty guests on his albums. I think its easy to be disappointed with new RZA and Wu Tang albums cause the old ones were so good.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

this isn't "the cure," btw. this is the prequel to "the cure." good album.

so, Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a sticker on the front that said it has a bonus track from the upcoming album The Cure...is the last track? If so, that's the one with the live band that sounds really fucking good, I wonder if that's what he's doing with the next album.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard the new RZA yet, but I should say that I think "NYC Everything" from the first Bobby Digital album is probably my all-time favorite Wu song, and I'm a pretty big Wu fan.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I've heard it now. It's fan-fucking-tastic. I'm very impressed. This is a major return-to-form after Digital Bullet, which was a depressing dud of an album.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I wish I hade money.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 15 October 2003 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Likewise.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 16 October 2003 06:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Hade© is a combination of had and made

oops (Oops), Thursday, 16 October 2003 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The birth of a prince is better then bobby digital, but it is still a week album overall. i give up on Wutang, but I have the memories

Nathaniel Turner, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

digital bullet was a great album, comparable to some of the clans original releases

jbw, Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i consider this album very good - especially the last four tracks (best sequence of great closing tracks on a hip hop album since Nas' 'God's Son'.
Masta Killa's verses are great too.
the only real pig of a track has gotta be 'we pop'.

paulhw (paulhw), Thursday, 23 October 2003 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

All hail the great Prince Rakime. The album could have done with out a couple of songs. But it just shows that RZA is one with his roots again. This man has been through some turbulance recently as far as his popularity with entire Hip Hop community, but if he keeps on dropping jems like Grits his popularity will spread once again and put wu back on there pedistal. One love and much respect for the legend RAKIME. We all need to be cured!

James Friedman, Saturday, 25 October 2003 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear James,
It's RAKEEM

Very truly yours,

Your Friendly Neighborhood Pedant

oops (Oops), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone else consider RZA the best rapper in Da Clan?
Here's how I'd rate them:

01. RZA
02. Raekwon
03. Method Man
04. Old ODB
05. GZA/Genius

squ9irl plise, Saturday, 25 October 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/r/rza/birth-of-a-prince.shtml

How can you review this without even mentioning 'Grits'??

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"That's a bold clam." "That's a bold clam."

no WAY is rza the best mc in the clan! for that would have to be GFK

oidsjfodsjio, Wednesday, 5 November 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

re: that pitchfork review

seventh paragraph should have been killed. calling the wu on their philosophical view is cheap, easy and just plain bullshit. who cares?

also the third paragraph is self-contradictory. "tired blaxploitation pathos" =! "fragmented landscape of sound". his argument is drowned out by the honking fire engines, gunfire and women screaming "it's MURRRDEERRRR" on "in the hood" (not even getting into "soul power" or "pinky ring").

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitchfork in "wrong about everything" shocker!

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 6 November 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

this album let me down....after hearing " the world according to rza", which by the way cost me quite a few bucks. as a loyal wu fan, i would now like to hear more from black nights and holocaust...let's all face it even though the rza and crew has surpassed greatness, it seems that the Wu is slippin'....can't wait for the whole masta killa...this new album does have a certain depth to it that only a select few might be able to decipher, but all in all "Domestic Violence 1&2" out shines the creativity level of any of the new cuts...one

a moore, Thursday, 6 November 2003 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

and let us all remember that the greatest emcee of all times said, "came through with the wu....slid of the dl....i'm low-key like seashells....i rock these bells".....all praises to the almighty GZA!!!

amoore, Thursday, 6 November 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

you're crazy this album is fun and great. it gets boring when he starts in with the isalm stuff but then he comes back with "drink smoke and fuck"

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Friday, 7 November 2003 05:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that World According to RZA ever coming out, or is it just an import?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 November 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno allmusic has the cover and the tracklist here:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDMISS70311071516231614&sql=Akytqoalawijv

apparently featuring french grop IAM and german rappers!

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the grand ultimate supreme, the atomic, islamic bomb dropper, the abbot, the rza recta in your secta, this album is a near classic and the best solo wu since Supreme Clientele, i think the WU is on its way back and if you our the conservative Wu fan that likes the old sound, you have The New Masta Killa album to cherish. Raekwon can only do better than his last album and Ghost is pretty consistant with his releases. Face it folks, the Rza is sharpening his lyrical sword for the cure and his beats are just sick, check track 6 that is ill wu tang slang on a slow , melodic beat that switches up, WU Tang for... you know the rest dun! there are few skips on this disc, if you like the Rza he is featured on a track called "This Thing" from Method Mans new cd not yet out, its real nice and his verse is ILLLLLL

Ryan Huerta, Thursday, 13 November 2003 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

it was a really weird reversal feeling for me when i heard the first track off this and got excited because the sampled "and"s evoked of all people dizze rascal.

scissors (Honda), Thursday, 13 November 2003 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard it yet, but would be surprised if it was up there with the first Bobby Digital. As much as I love the Wu, I gotta admit they're slippin a little

Whit Benson, Monday, 24 November 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This album gets better every time I listen to it, and Chaki's right about "Drink Smoke Fcuk" being a turnaround point in the progression. Rza's voice is really strong on it too, he doesn't sound nearly as smoked-out scratchy as he has in the past. (that's a good thing)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad we're still talkin about this one. Does anyone else think True Master's beats are underrated??

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Monday, 24 November 2003 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I had dinner with the rza when he came to chicago and this was never the cure, he said the cure is coming and it's his last album and that the wu will have one more tour and that's it as a whole, I told him I didn't believe him but he said what more can he do. Anyone who doesn't like BOAP is nuts, it's hip hop album of the year hands down, Wu tang forever

, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a bold clam
Woo-Hoo that's a spicy meat ball.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I had dinner with MF Doom the other night. He said that the truth is Rza is getting Doom to do The Cure and that Rza is going to pay for it by giving him U-God and La The Darkman. Sort of like a trade in baseball or something. Doom and I agreed that BOAP isn't the problem - its boap.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Not sure about best hip-hop album of the year - both Speakerboxxx and The Black Album have the edge on this from what I've heard. But I definitely agree with the "best solo Wu since Supreme Clientele" assessment. 'Chi Kung' is just *stately*. "You go against the grain, you will hang from the tongue!"

Flyboy (Flyboy), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ten months pass...
I love the RZA's utterly unprocessed and 'fake' vocal scratching & delay when introducing the other mc's on 'Fast Cars', when he could have just done it for real.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:23 (twenty years ago)

seventeen years pass...

Cherry Range is a fucking classic btw

Haven't heard these in forever, they still sound great. Even if the hook on Cherry Range is reminiscent of Addams Groove.

The vocal on 'Grits' is insane. Apparently the singer passed away :( https://ambrosiaforheads.com/2018/03/wu-tang-clan-affiliate-allah-real-obituary/
