Well now that its out has anyone actually listened to Plastikmans "Closer"?

Its hard to believe this came out this year. it sounds like the sort of acid-head teen angst conspiracy theorist shit my friends used to love back in the early 90s.

utter crap.

disconnect, disconnect my brain.... are these lyrics a joke? maybe he has just done too much acid cause this album just gets worse and worse. The lyrics are so bad it makes me cringe and the backing lacklustre borring cliched minimalism...

I guess you've never read about / heard about / heard / heard of Plastikman before.

Xii (Xii), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

well he has never had any kind of vocal element to his music before now.

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

overdose overdose overdose.

only the circuit breaker 12 was any good anyway (ok ok the 2 fuse singles also)

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Plastikman with vocals? What the fuck?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I heard it the other day and it is one of the WORST records I've heard in a very long time. The pitched-down voice-over on track 2 is beyond unlistenable--it's a crime against humanity. Also, to me, this is a point of serious concern that a once vibrant and innovative artist cannot recognize that something he has produced is so absolutely atrocious. Time for reeducation.

direct_program, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I found it completely unlistenable and annoying and I generally like Plastikman

Michael B, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

plasticman is where it's at.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

he's no great shakes either

Michael B, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i listened to this album twice and both times my brain began shutting down.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

whew, one to cross off the list

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

chinese water torture for the 21st century is a little harsh?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't his last album was terrible, too?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

is there singing or just vocal samples?

robin (robin), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmmm, i quite like it. i can't imagine listening to it very often (or in fact ever, as it's not really what i'd play at home) but if i was at someone's house and they put it on, i wouldn't object. mr. hand - the last album was tops!

and robin, it's singing. kind of.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 28 October 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

but not really - it's a really (cheesy) deep booming voice.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hah ok, I heard it once through headphones at a very loud party, maybe it wasn't the right place to soak in the pensive vibe!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I have listened to quite a bit of plastikman. Artifakts was really good. and that other album can't remeber it?

But Closer is complete crap.

the vocals are just shocking... kept reminding me of Donnie Darko or any other movie with an *eerie / *scary voiceover track. plastikman is played out..

dsico (dsico), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

it's weird because his mix CDs are/have been fucking BRILLIANT but yeah, this new one as well as the last few Plastikman albums are pretty much rub. I luf the early stuff, though. he's making tracks for manipulating in DJ sets etc. which is fine but on their own they're zzzzz.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I like all of the Plastikman albums, including Closer (took me a while to get over the vocals).

Monolake's Momentum is definitely the minimal techno album of the year -- for me, at least.

(Where you at, Disco Nihilist?)

Andy K (Andy K), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Right here Mr. Kellman.

I think we have already been through this:
the new Plastikman lp

So you are feeling the new "Mike-o-lake" album, I am pleased.

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i agree about consumed being great while also admitting that i caouldnt listen to it that often - i dont think this makes it "rub".

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

dsico you know stirmonster has the closing-credit song from Donnie Darko smack in the middle of one of his mixes!!
