I'm a huge Martin Carr fan, adore the Boos, etc. But I'm hesitant to call BC all that successful. Loved the "Corporation Man" single, as well as about half of Advertisements For Myself (particularly "The Weight That You Have Found"). But on AFM and The Fingertip Sessions Vols. 1 and 2 both that certain...something seems to be missing.

Or is it?

the songwriting seems a lot less ambitious than the Boos. possibly caused by writing for himself as opposed to writing for a band

i hate brave captain, i loved the boos. he seems to try to be earnest and willfully odd at the same time, it doesn't work. he's not welsh. oh and he can't sing either.

Hit or miss. Not sure if I'd call the website EP his best, but it is free, and pretty good. I think he's still trying to work out the best balance between his pop songwriting and the electronics that he loves. If he ever gets it right, it could be fantastic.

Should I listen to them? I've never really bothered? I heard one song "Better Living Through Wreckless Experimentation" which didn't seem to do anything at all. It was like the Boo Radleys at their most dull.

Anyhow, I thought FingSaint vol 1 was quite promising, but AdsMyself I got about 1/2 way through and hoy'd it out of t'player. Sorry.

The Boos seem to have a 'best of' on the schedule for this year (2CD set called "Wake up boo")

it's still good. some of the rhyming couplets are so rubbish though that it feels like he's made them that bad on purpose. Great ideas, okay it's not the boos but it's grebt!

Ok, blanking -- during the song w/ Akira the Don on BC's new one, Distractions, Carr comes in about two thirds of the way in, singing: "There's no choice when there's only one outcome/There's not discussion when there's only one voice." It's one of his best melodies in a years -- and it's stolen from another BC song.
