Gescom - Keynell -- I thought I heard it skip
Skampler -- see above
Mogwai - Youn Team -- see above

PJ Harvey - Rid of Me -- it was canonical, but I didn't like it, but it was canonical
Led Zep - IV -- see above

MBV - Loveless
Primal Scream (american version - so there is a difference)
Sly Stone - fresh
Funkadelic - Electric Spanking on War Babies
These 4 are albums which I bought on vinyl to go with having them on CD - I love all of these albums far too much

Besides that

Tricky - Maxinquaye - lent it to a friend, got it back didn't listen to it for months - discovered major skipping - couldn't blame friend as it had been to long - bitched majorly as I rebought it.

Public Enemy - Sold it because I was a fool - bought it back again after giving in 3 years later.

Didn't include any second hand albums purchased on vinyl

also: An album so nice...I bought it twice!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ted Leo's Hearts of Oak, which I had on pre-order from Amazon, but when the release date rolled around and it still hadn't arrived, I got impatient and picked it up at the store, but just barely too late to cancel the Amazon order. I ended up keeping the extra copy around in shrink wrap for a few months until I got my girlfriend into the record and she gladly took it off of my hands.

Minutemen's Double Nickels, which I misplaced the disc for a year or two and then broke down and bought another copy. when I moved I finally found the lost disc back behind the dresser, but it was all scratched up and barely playable anyway.

Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True, which I bought on cassette on a whim years and years ago, and just finally replaced with the new Rhino version on CD.

and I guess different versions of an album don't really count, but I just got a mixtape of the instrumentals from Jay-Z's Black Album.

oh and the Posies' Amazing Disgrace, another instance of buying on cassette on a whim, then falling in love with and replacing on CD. and a couple times I've gotten vinyl promos for free and then end up buying it on CD.

i have done this so many times it is depressing. most of the time it's been because they've gotten scratched up though (fuck case logic cases and their sandpaper pockets). I idiotically let a friend borrow about 30 CDs once and I didn't get them back from her for years, until I went over to her place and stole them back, which meant having to track them down in the stacks all over her living room, not in boxes, covered in dust. I've bought a few things twice because they were collectable and I found them cheap (throwing muses 'the curse' for one). but I haven't bought a second copy of something in the same format just for the hell of it. I'm not that stupid.

Ah, remasters reminds me:

I've bought Cocteau Twins' "Head Over Heal" three times: first time, I returned it full price because I didn't like it, second time was for the remaster because I thought maybe I'd like the sound then, third time is because I thought maybe the remaster made it worse than it originally was.

occasionally, when i see an album i own and love for a couple of euros in the sales bin at a second-hand record shop i buy it to give away to friends or family. this usually happens with i never even asked for light by lullaby for the working class. that's a record that *should* not be in the cut-out bin. recently i bought two extra copies of that hymie's basement album to give away.

(jg) ((jg)), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(fuck case logic cases and their sandpaper pockets).

many a cd will have to be burned due to this sad, sad fact.

I bought ATLiens used at a streetlight because I lost my other copy, then promptly lost it again. Upset by this development, I picked up the newly released Stankonia, only to lose that one about 3 weeks later. I haven't bought an outkast album since..

the only record I can think off the top of my head other than that is surrender by chemical bros.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I've bought Jane's Addiction's Nothing Shocking on vinyl, then again on cassette (`cos I was in the middle of damn long walk and needed to hear it as I was passing by a record store) and then a third time on CD.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

3-
Blonde On Blonde- vinyl, cd, remastered cd
Raw Power- Bowie mix vinyl, Bowie mix cd, Iggy mix cd
American Music Club: Engine- vinyl, cd, remastered cd
if the reissue programme had continued, AMCs California would be here too.

2-
Psychocandy- vinyl, cd
Marquee Moon- cd, remastered cd
Blood and Chocolate- cd, remastered cd

tons of Dylan and Beatles,- vinyl to cd
Lots of Husker Du, Go-Go's, American Music Club and Big Black,- vinyl to cd

In my defence, the vinyl that a lot of 80s stuff was pressed on was appalling and just sounded dreadful, particularly when played on cheap hi-fi equipment.

umm... froSTed, which I had to get a friend to bring back from the US in those pre-internet days, only to find several copies about a year later for a quid each or something ridiculous. I bought about three because I couldn't bear to see them left on the shelf. Planned to give them away but realised that no-one else gave a flying fuck about them.

Officer Pupp, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Bought, sold, bought again:
MBV - 'Loveless'
Ride - 'Leave Them all Behind'

Stolen inside walkman:
Auteurs - 'After Murder Park'

Scratched to buggery:
Earwig - 'Under My Skin I am Laughing'

Thought lost:
Buzzcocks - 'Singles Going Steady'
Sebadoh - 'The Sebadoh'

A tape copy for my walkman because it was cheap:
Sugar - 'Beaster'
