When was the last time you were in a club?

By "club" I mean a place where people go specifically to dance.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

It's been about 18 months for me. "One More Time" was played and I remember it was pretty current.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

New Year's Dancin' Eve.

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Other question is: Did you dance?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

December 18, I think, when I went to First Avenue's dance night from the 7th St. Entry, when Kate Silver and I went to check out a show there.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

t raumschmiere, miss kittin, andy weatherall, fortress, friday night

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

3 years.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember the last time I danced in a club to pre-recorded music. It could be 8 years! The problem with going out to clubs is that you have to leave the house.

dylan (dylan), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling that this is an important question. I think it's going to clear up some things.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I would go a lot more often, if I still lived in New York (or, alternatively, if I put forth the effort to find clubs that play music I dig here in L.A., and if I had the disposable income and was less of an in-bed-by-midnight fuddy-duddy at the ripe old age of 27).

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

June of 2002. I remember because it my 10-year high school reunion. We ended up at a place called the Dixie Dance Hall (this is in Beaumont, TX) that played mostly country, but also mixed in a little hip-hop.

Yes, I did dance when they played Eminem's "Without Me".

boldbury, Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Subterania in Ladbroke Grove, New Years's Eve 2002. Norman Jay was DJ-ing.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Last time I remember actually going to one and staying there was a school-dance thing when I was 10 or 11 years old (ie ca 12 years ago)
But I did for some idiotic reason end up in a disco four or five years ago, but got out of there in less than three minutes.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

a couple weeks ago.

kephm, Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last week (New Years) and I'm going to another on friday.

danh, Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i go pretty much every friday and saturday night.

last time was new years eve, i skipped last weekend so i could recover a bit.

of course, i kind of slow down to 1 1/2 nights a week in the winter and sometimes hit 3 or 4 nights a week in the summer.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

last week

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i am suspicious of this question: dancing is the new indie cred.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Phuck if I remember. I am blocking this outa my memory. I just remember the (well known English) dj being a complete tosser. I can never remember dj's names. Typical girlfriend behavior. ;-)

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I just wonder if people who go clubbing every weekend can talk about pop music w/ those who haven't been in years -- are they talking about the same thing?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to Ping Pong Pussy in London over 2 years ago. It did not live up to its name.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

are they talking about the same thing?

well, how do you mean? (i'd LOVE to use this as my excuse)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Went dancing at a Latin club in either November or December. It's been too long already. Danced to salsa, bachata, merengue. Didn't dance to some token dance-hall/reggaeton/something or other though it sounded okay..

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite a few years ago now. It was an indie club, and people were doing the sad little petal of love dance. I didn't enjoy it much, to be honest.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's been over a decade. The last time was before I was married, and it was one of those "goth/industrial" clubs.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

(Probably 11/14/03.)

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

last night - before that about 3 nights ago. i got the bug right now.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

But I dance EVERYWHERE I go!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe two years now :-(. i have an excuse though...

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in some clubs in New Orleans that were pretty strictly hip-hop. It was great actually dancing to Kanye West out in a club instead of just in my room. They also played some brass band shit and some Deneice Williams.

Every few months I accompany my goth/industrial friends to the goth/industrial club here. I had one or two really fun nights there, but 'meh'.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh, I forgot, my band plays at a biker's club in northern england quite a lot. I don't suppose that counts though.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

never stepped in a 'proper' club.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with julio.. never gone to a club for the purpose of dancing.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple weeks ago, but I haven't danced in a club in a few months.

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i danced at my wedding last october.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 January 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing is, I find that a lot of the people I see in the club are into having sex, they're not into making love, and that's just not my scene.

dylan (dylan), Thursday, 8 January 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"The thing is, I find that a lot of the people I see in the club are into having sex, they're not into making love, and that's just not my scene. "

classic.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 8 January 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably like 3 1/2 months ago. I saw Total Science (who were pretty rad) and Goldie (who wasn't very rad).

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 8 January 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

went to sf's Club Six last year, but it was to see Goodiepal. maybe 30 people there. no one danced. okay there were two people square dancing.

(Jon L), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

about eight days ago.

and yeah, I lost my fucking mind.

Former Supposed So Called Nihilist Teenage Drug Disco Addiction Counselor A (mjt, Friday, 9 January 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to a club just before Xmas. And also DJ'd at a sort of club slightly nearer to Xmas. I didn't dance at my thing but allegations fly that I danced on a table in a pile of broken glass in an indie pub on NYE.

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

about 2 months ago. it'll be a while before i go back because i don't have any time for that crowd anymore.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

pardon?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

the crowd that frequents the clubs i've gone to

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sympathetic to that, but i'll always have time for a loud-ass PA system and a strobelight.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I bartended a "dance" over Christmas. They played both "Crazy In Love" and "Hey Ya" five times each over a period of 8 hours.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Score!

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

a couple of times a week, but in waves. always with the express purpose of dancing. Most recently last saturday, but I was DJing. Been home working and sick all week so I missed Twitch tuesday night, and probably will again tomorrow. Sorry! I'll try to make it...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't been to a club since November, December was filled with house parties and this January I've been busy being sick. Dancing occured at all occasions, even January.

It sould be pointed out that going to clubs depends on not just who you are (as Mark suggests), but also where you are: eg New York = great clubs and limited opportunity for large (50 - 100+)parties = conducive to going out clubbing; Brisbane (small city) = weak clubs but easy access to large isolated houses = people less likely to go to clubs.

Jedmond, Friday, 9 January 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Week before Christmas. The last few weeks have been consumed with moving house and getting sick.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 9 January 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

About a year ago I had my first (and only, so far) club experience. It was at a Canadian military club in Vancouver that sold expensive beer and the only cool song they played was "I Wanna Be Your Dog." And I danced as poorly as I always dreamed I could. What a great night.

bitter_buffalo (bitter_buffalo), Friday, 9 January 2004 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Last time probably August or September, I can't remember. Yes, real actual dancing was involved. Actually, plans were to go on New Year's Eve, but those fell by the wayside when I got way too drunk at the earlier house-party.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is going tonight?

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The arches in glasgow, on my birthday in June last year. If i remember correctly i spent most of the night moping about being 28.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'M goin out TONITE!

vahid (vahid), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused - why exactly would you go to a club if you weren't going to dance?

Tuesday night was mine, chart and retro pop in Nottingham and I shook my booty thoroughly. They played Girls Aloud followed by Busted so I was happy.

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 9 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i usually go out dancing every thursday (80's night), but the last few times it's either been a holiday or I've been sick.

Felcher (Felcher), Friday, 9 January 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

why exactly would you go to a club if you weren't going to dance?

Women. Being able to drink after 11pm.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Friday, 9 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

forgot to say, I didn't dance. I've danced in a club.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

last time i went out to a club was last saturday and i didn't dance because i wasn't in the mood (they were playing old punk rock at the downstairs bar though and i was surprised at how much i missed that kind of music, sign of the times...)

didn't do nye cos i was not feeling well and i have a feeling i didn't miss a thing.

before that a friend of mine threw a great house party with a bunch of djs so we didn't have to go to a club!

i'll probably go out somewhere this weekend or i might wait until monday night

disco stu (disco stu), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually might go out dancing tonight; turns out Felix is spinning. Not sure yet if I want to deal with the crappy venue, though

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, i forgot about that! i'll probably go...

disco stu (disco stu), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with ya on the crappy venue factor though.

disco stu (disco stu), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Women. Being able to drink after 11pm.

Fair enough. Women generally find me repellent and I'm usually drunk by the time I get to a club so I'm left with no choice but to shake my thang.

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I usualy need a few before I hit the dancefloor.

I had a theory that the reason so many English boys were into club music was because that was where the women were.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Aria in Montreal about 8 months ago was the last time I really got locked in. I can't keep up anymore. My knees are destroyed.

Shaun (shaun), Friday, 9 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Saturday. I went to clubs 5 times on two weeks over Xmas and New Year. And yes, I danced copiously every time.

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the crowd that frequents the clubs i've gone to

where, Jim?

not for ages, 'cause I've been staying w/ my Mum in New Zealand for about a month and I don't really know anyone here. I went to a dancehall night just before I left (and the night before that saw an incredibly rad Derrick May set which he finished off w/ an Arthur Russell track I've never come across--bongo style drums over crashing wave sounds... can anyone track id?)

but usually at least once, if not twice or three times a week.

OCP (OCP), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe 6 or 7 years a go and not by choice. dance clubs make the bile rise up in the back of my throat.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Saturday, cold sober. Clubs have damn near killed me in the past - I don't have much in the way of self-control - so if I ever do it up nowadays, it has to be worth it (good planning, close friends, non-chachi venue; homework done and my weave is tight, cellphone water keys and my lipstick, jump in the limousine, so stylistic).
I'm watching hockey tonight, though - priorities, baby.

[Hey jack, part 2 tomorrow, sorry (I've been busy).]

The Thinking Man's Paris Hilton (DarrenK), Saturday, 10 January 2004 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with that not talking the same language thing.

Hard to say why though.

Incidentally am very amused to see that the fortress has become an acceptable venue, but is still full of casualties...

Jacob (Jacob), Saturday, 10 January 2004 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

night before last

minna (minna), Saturday, 10 January 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

eight months pass...
It's been at least half a year. Very bad that it's been so long. I need to get rid of some of this flab, get the chemicals (natural ones from my brain itself) swishing around in my brain, and so forth. Everything is so serious and heavy and wrong. One bad thing about this apartment is that most of the time it gives me enough sense of privacy that I can just kind of stay here.

I had an odd dream last night about exploring my own apartment (except it wasn't like the one I'm living in now and was more like a house). There was a screened in porch type section where this incredible profusion of weeds had grown up, and I was thinking: "I need to get in here and pull up some of these weeds." I think that's my state at the moment: basically something nice to work from, but I need to clear the weeds up.

(Once I was out in the porch area, a bee came after me and I woke up.)

Not to be inappropriately personal or anything. (Is there such a thing here?)

I rediscovered this thread because of the reggaeton question.
