Looking for Kraftwerk covers...

As I mentioned on the other thread, Trouble Funk did "Trouble Funk Express" which is basically just "Trans Europe Express".

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 25 January 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

someone once told me that the Kronos Quartet have covered Kraftwerk. dunno if he knew what he was talking about, though. anyone?

(I'm kinda disappointed that many of these covers of mostly of the same four or five songs... no love for "electric cafe" or "pocket calculator"?)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Harry Pussy = Best Kraftwerk coverers ever! But credit due to those who stole the soullessness, barely bothering to change the song titles:

24. There was a Mortiis side project called Fata Morgana which was blatantly a Kraftwerk cover band. "Space Race" 7" has the goods.

25. Also, I liked the Austrian band Komputer.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Monday, 26 January 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

26. heligoland - neon lights

27. warm jets - the model

Ian Grey (Ian_G), Monday, 26 January 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

30.Gorefest - Autobahn

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 26 January 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

31. Treponem Pal - The Model

Whoever was talking upthread about a Cleopatra album - I have a Japanese tribute album I got off slsk... as I recall it's no-one you've ever heard of doing less obvious Kraftwerk songs.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know where ny brain went as I was typing that, because Treponem Pal did 'Radioactivity' and not 'The Model'.

Curse this lack of edit! *shakes fist at sky*

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Lloyd Cole did Pocket Calculator.

harveyw (harveyw), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Treponem Pal - The Model

Did they do this as well as "Radioactivity"? Because that's the one I know (and had forgotten about until now).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned,

See my later post correcting my mental abberation.

Noticing you've made a mistake, mere nanoseconds after hitting the Submit button - c/d?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, sorry. :-)

^^^ I am listening to this now. It's really good!! I've heard Kraftwerk covered in every possible style it seems but I think the steel drums really emphasize how melodic their music is. It's super fun, especially "Tour de France"

Japanese surf band The Routes released an all-Kraftwerk covers album in 2022 and unlike many of these kinds of tribute albums, the covers are thought through and the band seems to be thinking "fuck yeah, Kraftwerk!" the whole time.

It's mentioned above, but here's the video of the German schoolkids performing "Die Roboter":

It's a rare glimpse of human culture from before the AI years.
