haha - way too many to mention, when i was an adolescent i periodically went thru 'that's it - from now on i'm only gonna listen to JAZZ' "awakenings".

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Stereolab and Cornershop. Bought them during the Britpop age and didn't quite "get" them. Then discovered electronica and discovered later than both the Stereolab and Cornershop albums were brilliant.

None yet.
I do intend to repurchase Motorpsycho's Let Them Eat Cake eventually, after having sent my copy off to an American type who had trouble getting hold of it.
Kind of a shame, as it's by FAR my favorite album by the band, yet I've gone without it for maybe two years already, while I still having dullness like Phanerothyme lying about.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh!
I bought Sleep's Jerusalem twice.
It sucked the second time too, so I sold it off again.

Between hating that and Thergothon, my doom-cred is null and void.

This issue has definitely in the past aggravated whatever part of my brain it is that's supposed to eschew artifact-consciousness and/or consign nostalgia to the dustbin.

Various titles by The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Gabriel-era Genesis. The first Doors album. "Led Zeppelin III". "Who's Next".

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

the only one immediately coming to mind is Smashign Pumpkins "tristessa" 7".. if there's others i can't remember 'em

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

none, but I'm planning to get rid of 300 or so albums soon so it's a lot more likely in the future than it is now.

There are also a few cases of me having sold a CD to purchase a remastered edition (only if the audio on the remaster is considerably better). However, in those cases, I will usually buy at first and then sell the older version afterwards.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tommy" - The Who
"Rubber Soul" - The Beatles
"It Crawled Out Of My Hand, Honestly" - The Fugs

Shoulda let the Fugs res in peace, though...

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Should also get my eyesight checked too.

I sold all my Julian Cope vinyl one day. Something really annoyed me about his music. I don't know what. A few years ago I realised the error of my ways and repurchased most of his CDs.

mentalist (mentalist), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Albums that you shunned/sold/got rid of and later picked up again

Led Zep IV
PJ Harvey - Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love

Suspected damage:
Mogwai - Young Team
autechre - LP5 (not even to the CD itself, but to the jewel case)

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Green Day - Dookie

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Young Team is only worth it for 3 songs... "Fear Satan", "Tracy" and the one with Aidan from Arab Strap.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember if I've ever done this, actually, but I must have at one point or another.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

OUT HUD = STREET DAD. couldn't get down to it, at first, so i sold it. then saw them live and were amazed so i bought it again. now am thinking of selling it. kinda right the first time. takers?

ken taylrr, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i've done this an embarassing number of times. usually I sold stuff because i was broke, which is how I lost all my bauhaus cds, which I then rebought. now with vbr mp3s and an ipod it's less of an issue, BUT, I JUST sold paradise motel's "left over life to kill" two days ago because I hadn't listened to it in two years, and just relistened to it, and thought, "FUCK! Why did I sell that?" At least I have the mp3s. I'll probably rebuy it anyway.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ken, I'm still enjoying the STREETDAD!
Are you saying it will eventually lose its appeal?

(but it does pale to the live set I saw)

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha.. caught by the guy that bought it from me! how's it going pat? are you listening to Brave New Waves? Lotsa Hawtin/Plus 8 stuff! www.bravenewwaves.ca

ken taylrr, Thursday, 5 February 2004 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

and no, i'm not seriously thinking about selling it again. just disappointed at the lack of vocals (a la live show). . . still a nice disc all around, but i'm sure the new one will trump it

ken taylrr, Thursday, 5 February 2004 07:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Smashing Pumpkins "siamese dream" several times 'cos it kept getting stolen from me. Also stuff I had on tape like the Damned 'Phantasmagoria' that I've gotten on CD.
