Rohan Salazar, Friday, 13 February 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

something by the kills or the killers

Rohan Salazar, Friday, 13 February 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"God Only Knows" by Beach Boys. Done!

Playa Hata, Friday, 13 February 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

happy birthday

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

tad otm

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbar, I'm not sure I've heard that song. That's an Aphex Twin white label 12 inch, right?

Rohan Salazar, Friday, 13 February 2004 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course it is "Viva Forever" by the Spice Girls.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

In all seriousness: something by Al Green, ca. 1972.
In all facetiousness: the disco version of "C is for Cookie"

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Nate, gotta disagree. "Disco Duck" by Bert beats "C is for Cookie" hands down.

Playa Hata, Friday, 13 February 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Disco count, counting disco dancers!"
"Shake your feathers!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole

We've qualified for the World Cup
Go and compete

We're prepared, a new goal
We'll do our best
We'll Put 'em Under Pressure, defense, defense

The game is about
Being effective
Being aggressive
Winning the ball
Getting it on with the play
We'll Put 'em Under Pressure "

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

it's gotta be something from ASTRAL WEEKS!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

wrong.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I unsolicitedly aired my numerous grievances with Astral Weeks all over this undeserving thread...

ILM-hated bands you secretly - or openly - love

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i know, alex, i was being facetious

maybe the joke would have worked better as "it's gotta be something by THE CLASH!!"

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 13 February 2004 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

wasn't "disco duck" done by Rick Dees?
Bert surely would have done "pigeon shuffle" or something

huck, Friday, 13 February 2004 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Just Like Heaven" or "Blue Monday"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 13 February 2004 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Now who wouldn't like Tom Lehrer's "The Elements"?

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 13 February 2004 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

simple, 2 become 1 by the Spice Girls
or groove is in the heart by Deelite

lukey (Lukey G), Friday, 13 February 2004 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd vote for '3, Is The Magic Number'. both the Bob Dorough original and the De La Soul version.

mzui, Friday, 13 February 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Bill Withers - "Lovely Day" or Al Green - "Let's stay together"

jed_ (jed), Friday, 13 February 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe-

Walk Away Renee, Dancing Queen or Cruel to Be Kind

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 13 February 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It's gotta be 'Last Night' by The Strokes or 'Hey Ya!'. Oh, hang on, I got this confused with NME.com. See ya.

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 13 February 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stand "God Only Knows"

Joe (Joe), Friday, 13 February 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Who doesn't love "Lights Out" by the Angry Samoans? Even if you don't, it's over in 51 seconds!

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Friday, 13 February 2004 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I veto both Blue Monday and Groove is in the Heart

And put forward:

Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke"

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck Stevie Wonder.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Make nice, Alex, he hasn't said a word against you. Oh, what was that Stevie? Tell that bitch to step off? Done.

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevie Wonder is an unduly sacred cow begging to be tipped.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like him either, but still...

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevie Wonder sucks big time. The man is seriously overrated and highly annoying...

Rudolf (Rudolf), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

On the Samoans tip, what about The Punch Line by those Minutemen, dead short, great Watt bassline & a big sweary ending. Yo!

mzui, Friday, 13 February 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i submit: Paper Cup~5th Dimension
or maybe Turn To Stone~Joe Walsh

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

stevie wonder gives me a migraine.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 13 February 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 13 February 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"Love Will Tear Us Apart"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 13 February 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Killing Moon"

Rick Spence (spencerman), Friday, 13 February 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"Over the Rainbow"

oops (Oops), Friday, 13 February 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Brown-Eyed Girl"

John Fredland (jfredland), Friday, 13 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stand "Brown-Eyed Girl".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Killing Moon".....now there's a contender, however.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

IT IS TEH GREEN DAYS DOOKEY

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't it "electric avenue"?

metfigga (metfigga), Friday, 13 February 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

'Fuck Stevie Wonder.'

'Stevie Wonder is an unduly sacred cow begging to be tipped.'

'Stevie Wonder sucks big time. The man is seriously overrated and highly annoying... '

I am seriously distressed.

pete s, Friday, 13 February 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"Be My Baby"

chris herrington (chris herrington), Saturday, 14 February 2004 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"universally loved song" - this must've been attempted a few times already on ILM?
a pity i don't recall the exact thread titles, tho.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 14 February 2004 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody has vetoed either Spice Girls song ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I will veto the Spice Girls ones if that's what it takes. There are good Spice Girls songs, but not those two.

I will therefore nominate "What Becomes Of the Broken Hearted" by Jimmy Ruffin and "Bohemian Rhapsody".

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Can See Clearly Now The Rain Has Gone".

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 14 February 2004 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"Can I Kick It?"

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 14 February 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Of those I've heard...

Hate:

"God Only Knows" by Beach Boys. Done!
Al Green, ca. 1972.
ASTRAL WEEKS!
'Last Night'
'Hey Ya!'
"I Can See Clearly Now The Rain Has Gone".
"Can I Kick It?"
Brown-Eyed Girl"
"What Becomes Of the Broken Hearted"

Barely tolerate:

'3, Is The Magic Number'
"Blue Monday"
Son of a Preacher Man

Still quite like despite idiotic over-exposure, by idoits:

groove is in the heart
"Love Will Tear Us Apart"
"Over the Rainbow"
"Bohemian Rhapsody"

mei (mei), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

How can anybody hate "Can I Kick It?"?! I amst distraught.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ditto for "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" (you have to not think of the travesty that was Robson & Jerome, though that only heightens the majesty of the original).

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I propose:

Slayer- Necrophobic
A Team Theme
Super Mario theme
Missy Elliot - Funky Fresh Dressed
Shellac - Watch Song
That little contented mewl kittens make - IT DOES COUNT AS A SONG!

mei (mei), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I Kick It was okay until I heard it for the billionth time, but Broken Hearted... is just awful.

mei (mei), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(Okay then...)

"PUTTIN ON THE RITZ"

(Rings a bell?)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 14 February 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

So twee! Yuk!

mei (mei), Saturday, 14 February 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

....says the man who nominates kitten mewling

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 February 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Good point, well made.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 14 February 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

But, but, but... right then, I'm telling my kittend on you!
Thought you were so clever didn't you? Now you'll be sorry!

mei (mei), Saturday, 14 February 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, to live in a world where the aforementioned (and glorious) "Dancing Queen" and "Punch Line" were universal. But since it ain't gonna happen, howbout "Louie Louie?" There's a thousand versions, everybody's gotta love one, right?

Or maybe "Blitzkrieg Bop?"

Myonga Von Bontee, Sunday, 15 February 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

*somewhere, unseen, someone, of unspecified age, YAAAAAAAAAAWNS*

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 15 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"Under Pressure"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 15 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

By no means is it one my favorite songs of all-time; nor do I believe its a "universally loved song"; but I do love it and I can't understand how anyone could hate it: MOTORHEAD "Ace Of Spades"

I can at least see a room full of people from ages 7 to 77 just having funn listening to that tune.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I veto "Under Pressure". Just for the fact that both David Bowie and Queen have done a Zillion songs that are sooooo much better than this repetitive shit (Vanilla Ice may have destroyed it for me forever).

Btw. For that same reason, I veto "Sir Duke". One of the weakest songs on a generally excellent album, by a generally excellent act.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ace Of Spades" is absolutely awful and completely unlistenable.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"Big Balls"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you might be thinking of "Space Of AIDS"

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)
