Aaaah, so MASSIVE POP CRITIC SEATTLE DRUG ORGY FUCK FAP is in order then. Nice. *rubs hands together*

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

kraftwerk are SO picking the wrong week to play seattle.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Correction. EMP is SO picking the wrong week to host the conference.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

that too!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

so, for the world harmony to be restored, maybe the dates for the two events should just be switched?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Kraftwerk April 15 - 18? Sure, I'm down with that!

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(I mean, April 15 - 18 as in Kraftwerk plays for 72 hours straight.)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

This year’s gathering looks at particular moments when music erupted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

YES!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

here's what I'm REALLY looking fwd to:

Critical Karaoke
Writers interpreting the songs they’ve thought were the greatest ever: for exactly the length of the song, over the music!

Joshua Clover, Daphne Brooks, Jessica Hopper, Greil Marcus & Ange Mlinko, “Critical Karaoke”

Venue: JBL Theater

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

wish I could participate in that one!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

That better be done with mime.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Cirque de Critique

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

phew - i first read the title as EMO Pop Conference

Thea, Friday, 20 February 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

do people actually pay to attend? who's the audience for this stuff? greil marcus groupies and grad students? maybe prisoners shipped in from a local reform school? Incredible.

lovebug starski, Friday, 20 February 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

If I lived in Seattle, I'd go. Some of these panels sound neat.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that gang truce/prehiphop thing actually sounded really good so I guess I'd go and even pay for that, but a lot of the other panels just seemed to be trying too hard, you know?

lovebug starski, Friday, 20 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I'm really really sad that I didn't propose a détournment of the Neil Pollack book for this.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Drooooool.....

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 20 February 2004 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

trying too hard to what?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

to try, apparently.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 February 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

a lot of these panels look awesome!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 20 February 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

where's ego trip?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 20 February 2004 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

uh, they already did it last year?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

can i get an encore do you want more?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 20 February 2004 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

do they put out the books or findings or whatever for plebes like me to read? i pestered sfj for his notes or whatever on return of them white noise supremacists but nothing came of it (i'm totally in amy phillips corner now too after 'white blood sells' and repping for madeline in the p&j)

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 20 February 2004 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

any ilxors going to be there other than our beloved Seattle contingent?

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(yes blount they put out a book of last year's conference, i believe)

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

book of the first year is coming out this May, they're "premiering" it at the conf, whatever that means (probably have copies for sale before it hits stores). dunno about 2nd year, maybe the book combines them.

Ego Trip was really great but I'm not sure it's best off as a yearly event.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

well then goodie goodie

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

trying too hard to be serious/deep/weighty. I appreciate the effort as I consider myself an intellectual, too, it's just that post-modern sheen of self-consciousness and all the cliched academic jargon obscure the topics at hand -- for me, anyway. But my original comments were sorta obnoxious...more power to anybody who can get their ideas out in the world. I went to EMP museum last summer and had a great time and my seven-year old kid dug it, too. Guess I figured out who the conference audience is. Peace.

lovebug starski, Friday, 20 February 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

trying too hard to be serious/deep/weighty.

Hmmmm, where have I heard that before...

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Trying too hard to be serious/deep/weighty is the new fun. I mean, how many times do I have to stress this?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Keep going.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

it certainly beats the shit out of trying too hard to be witty/clever/light-hearted. I'll give it a go.

lovebug starski, Friday, 20 February 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Word.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 20 February 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

no, I sort of agree with starski--especially about the academic jargon, which is always a danger with stuff like this. last year's conference, though, was really, REALLY fun--even some of the more jargon-y papers lit up a bit performed live. plus in many cases, those titles' jargon-y aspects stay entirely in the title, leaving you with some smart, passionate people talking about stuff they love.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

gawd i'm really tempted to find some way to go.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

except i always feel like a little amateur loser at things like this.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

do it anyway

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, Sterling, if that's how you feel, I'll never make it out to one of these.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

maura can verify my total freak-outedness at conventions where people seem to have even the faintest idea what they're doing.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

now you've almost got me wishing I could go, too. "smart passionate people talking about stuff they love" is what drew me HERE in the first place. need to have a rethink on this one.

lovebug starski, Saturday, 21 February 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, now I really REALLY want to go...two words: critical karaoke!

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Saturday, 21 February 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon sterl, i don't even have the faintest idea of what i'm doing, and i'm a panelist...

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 21 February 2004 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yr gonna be in Seattle, Dave? YES!!!

:-)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 21 February 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Robert Christgau, Village Voice, "Writing About Music is Writing First"

For all I know this will be a fascinating lecture, but really, this is his nugget of wisdom after however many years writing music reviews?

I would like to hear the Jewlia Eisenberg piece. Also congrats to ILMers participating.

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 21 February 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Knock yerselves out.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that there were massive typographical errors in peoples' comments in P&J. Is this why Xgau (from what I can parse in his abstract) is going to take folks to school? And how ironic would it be if nobody's there because they're all either defending or waiting to critique the White Stripes deal?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Even though it's a $90 plane ticket round trip, I'm not going. This conference totally friggin' intimidates me. I chose South by Southwest instead as "job training" from my employer this year. Maybe in 2005.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Saturday, 21 February 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Revive! This is happening the weekend after next. I'm moderating the panel Dave M is on. Who all is coming out to this?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 8 April 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still waiting for signups for the MASSIVE POP CRITIC SEATTLE DRUG ORGY FUCK FAP.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(but I will be buying my pass soon for the conference)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You journalist WHORE. (I expect full details.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 April 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe I didn't go to this last year. I expect to be overcompensating like a motherfucker

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 8 April 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It does sound like lots of rock nerd fun. I just can't pull it off this year; I spent too much company dough at SXSW. Like I said, maybe in 2005. But only if they add a teaching clinic from Neil Strauss on "How to Cameo in a Porno When You're a Rock Critic."

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the first one and had a blast. Missed last year due to $$ constraints and kicked myself allyear for it. Missing this year becasue the expense of flying and housing myself there is still a bigger pinch than I can handle.

Next year in Seattle!

Randy Reiss (undeadsinatra), Thursday, 8 April 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.kexp.org/learn/popconference.asp has some audio of previous presentations if you really wanna geek out. I highly recommend Ned Sublette's, which I saw and was astounded by. (He's got a huge--670-plus page--book on Cuban music coming out this summer, can't wait to dip into it.)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 8 April 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I am coming, Mr. Matos... I don't have a place to stay, but I have airfare all set. I'm looking forward to Having a Seder With Jonathan Richman, and whatever after-hours Fuck Fap can be had. As long as they still ask me to submit a paper next year...

Dan

El Dano Lectro, Friday, 9 April 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to the conference in Seattle, tho I still don't have a place to stay... looking forward to 'Having a Seder with Jonathan Richman.'

Dan Aloi

Dan Aloi (67Dano), Friday, 9 April 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

who wants to stay at my place?

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 9 April 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got my full weekend pass just seconds ago, so as i meet folks, i can certainly host at my place.. (I have a couch, and a futon). I live just over and down the hill from the EMP in Fremont/NE Queen Anne Hill.

There's a bus (the 13) that will take you from that area directly into lower Queen Anne Hill (where the EMP/Seattle Center is located). Also, staying in downtown might be a good option if you desire it (though it may be more expensive) because you can catch the Monorail from the Westlake Center Mall (on 4th & Pine) to directly inside the EMP. And then, you also are right next to Capitol Hill as well, not to mention Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, Belltown, etc.

Also, to do a couple of friends a favor, specifically record store owner friends.

Wall Of Sound Records/Confounded Books has MOVED since the last conference!

I r e p e a t . . .

Wall Of Sound Records/Confounded Books has MOVED to Capitol Hill. They are no longer in Belltown on 2nd ave. They are now on Pine St. near the corner of Melrose, just two stores up from Bauhaus Coffee. It's a minor hike up Pine st. from downtown.

Also, for those of you into collector records, Jive Time Records in Fremont may be a fun place for you to check out. Granted, many think the prices are a bit high, but deals can be worked out, and any record over $3 is pretty much guaranteed to have vinyl quality in great condition. Worse case, there's a Sonic Boom records a block down the hill as well, on the same side of the street. Also across from Sonic Boom records is an EXTENSION of Jive Time Records inside the Antique Mall, which also has a lot of vinyl. From downtown, grab the 26 or 28 bus from 4th st, and that will take you directly to downtown Fremont.

Ok, that is all.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 9 April 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Boomp

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloomps?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

funny enough, a friend of mine in portland just messaged me and told me he's going to be in Seattle the same days I'm going to the conference, which was odd, because I never thought of him as being much a music critic/geek type, so I asked him if he was going to the Pop Conference and then he told me "huh? i'm going to the Spring[forget what it's called], it's a big BEAR MEET in Seattle this weekend. It will be a WOOFY weekend!!"

So, apparently, the Pop Conference has timed itself exactly with some sort of big Bear conference/festival/thingamajig... so, um, watch out for a lot of big hairy men, all you musicheads coming this weekend.

(like i should talk)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"WOOFY weekend" is my new favorite phrase, by the way.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

REVIVE. I just got in town, 24 hours of air travel under my belt. Matos has a great j-box jury with Eric and Ann in this week's Seattle Weekly, everyone should read (plus a great Doug Wolk piece on Courtney Love's new record and a cover story about Sun City Girls, huzzah). Let the music critic orgy begin!

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(and just for the record: http://www.seattleweekly.com/features/0415/040414_music_yes.php (yes by dq) )

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, this is a blast so far.. then again, all we've mostly done so far is shmooz and have great dinners together... so yay!

(although, in the bizarre musical coincidences department, the Johnny Cash song that was played during the keynote speech was exactly the Johnny Cash song that was being played as I entered the Hurricane Cafe as I went to play pinball to kill time to wait for my 1:15am bus back home)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell us more...How was Langford's opening address?

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Saturday, 17 April 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Amy Phillips' White Blood Cells presentation make any sense?

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Saturday, 17 April 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

How about the Jonathan Richman seder thing, or Christgau on good writing?

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Saturday, 17 April 2004 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, this is a blast so far.. then again, all we've mostly done so far is shmooz and have great dinners together... so yay!

WAH! (In that I'm not there to join in.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I missed all of the above things but my friends did see all of the above, and, everyone uniformally agreed the Christgau panel was very informative and great. He basically edited four pieces of journalism writing about the Rolling Stones..(published ones I think).. aaah, I'll let Matos explain once he feels up to it. I'm sad I missed it, needless to say.

The Sarah Vowell/Jon Langford keynote speech last night was great...as someone put it, "very NPR". I had to walk out for a while because I can only take so much talk about presidential assassinations and the results thereof. But it was a great piece.

But what i DID see today worth noting, aside from meeting a lot of great folks for the first time....

* Franklin Bruno giving a history and piece on the song "Is That All There Is?" and variations there of.

* Meeting Dan Sinker of Punk Planet magazine and talking with him after the How To Survive As An Independent Writer panel, which also featured Neal Pollack and T Cooper (The Backdoor Boys) who were all great. And also the guy who was in Girls Against Boys who now runs a independent publishing company. (apparently, when he was reading in all the G vs. B videos and photo shoots, he was ACTUALLY COPY-EDITING SOMETHING! It's not a pose! He had a lot to work to do and didn't care for the videos and photo shoots, so that's what he did during them). Anyway, Dan Sinker is great, and we both extolled the virtues of Larry Livermore (former Lookout! records owner, was in the Potatomen, has a regular column in Punk Planet), who apparently is coming out with a memoirs book about his life really soon, which is great news, and makes me anxious. Dan is also the only guy at the conference that noted that THERE ARE AMUSEMENT PARK RIDES RIGHT BEHIND THE CONFERENCE, WHY IS NOBODY RIDING THE BUMPER CARS HAVING FUN?

* One of the highlights of the conference that I think people will be talking about for weeks was the one moderated by Jeff Chang feat. Benjamin Melendez talking about his history in the Ghetto Brothers, a rock/latin/soul combo from the South Bronx in the break of the 70s, who were pretty much integral in creating the Bronx gang truce at the time, and essentially triggering the rebuilding of culture in the community that would serve as a pre-history and nurturing of hip-hop in NYC in the future to come. (there was no denying that gang problems existed throughout the seventies, but the gang truce story was a major turning point, and things could have developed far worse had it not been for that.. ) I'm only giving away the top layer here. It was an amazing story. Forgive me if I'm not recollecting the important notes of the story correctly here.

* Most of the conference went over to see the Christian Marclay Exhibit at the Seattle Art Museam right after, and some of the conference got a chance to see the subsequent Christian Marclay performance feat. Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell and many others. It was a fantastic performance all around. I just got back from it now. I'm tired, and I now must go to sleep.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 17 April 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit, I forgot to mention there was some great pieces on Femininity/Queerness by various folks working at UCSD, UCI, UW, and elsewhere.... one about Elvis's alleged appropriation and cleansing of Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog", whether it was direct or not... another about lesbian bars, sexuality, and mainstream music, another about an initial wave of straight-boy emo rock and its parellels with dyke-band culture.. and a member of former dyke punk band Tribe 8 telling her stories about her band and her stories.

Again, too tired to go into detail, but the video clips and stories were great.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 17 April 2004 06:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(off to see Matos and Dave. M do the Post Punk variations panel... can't wait.)

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 17 April 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

When come back bring Peter Saville designs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I get to hear the Chang thing here in Madison tomorrow at HipHopGeneration

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 17 April 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

This blows. Was going to attend today but am working instead.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Saturday, 17 April 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my god... WAAAAAY too much to go into today, will go into detail later.. but if my last post was big, today's will surpass that by 5 times. All in all, this has been the best money i spent on a multi-day event ever...

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

when i was in seattle, i went kayaking on the lake that's downtown. er, one of them. there are a couple, right? it was cool, cuz the houseboat that's in sleepless in seattle was on this lake and we paddled by it. my wife's friend, though, she couldn't keep up and i was frustrated. my wife though, she was totally bad ass.

frankE, Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I'll have to attend this thing next year. (Not Frank's thing.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

In all honesty Ned, this seems like it would be a strange hybrid of the best and worst of both worlds for you. It's a total music geek conference and a total academic conference, all in one basically. The best part, really, is getting to talk to the people outside the panels and either getting more ideas thereof, or, more superficially, provides an immediate forum for your own personal networking. You were brought up alot, via AMG reviews, for example, one of the guys I hung out with the most, J. (former member of Ashtray Boy), in particular. (it was me who mentioned you being a big Ashtray Boy fan and mentioned that I thought I swore you did AMG reviews for them).

Also side note: there were a few folks from UCI doing panels too. One of them, Matthew Mooney, did a great and underrated piece on history of music video, the Nickelodean, music video amd promotion from 1895-1915. The slides were great, and I thought I saw one slide that must have been the influence for the cover of Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. (then again, I might have been too tired and been seeing things at the time)

anyway, still tired, must go attend the finale and catch a bus and all that shit. Anyway.. will talk later.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought I saw one slide that must have been the influence for the cover of Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.

Yes, it's very definitely an homage to the time and place.

You were brought up alot, via AMG reviews,

! Bemusing!

for example, one of the guys I hung out with the most, J. (former member of Ashtray Boy), in particular. (it was me who mentioned you being a big Ashtray Boy fan and mentioned that I thought I swore you did AMG reviews for them).

Indeed I did. Heh, well that was cool. :-) Hope nobody minded my ramblings too much! And good to hear UCI was represented. Academic conferences aren't bad when they're fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Had a GREAT time. Met some awesome people (notably, from this list, Brian). Will post more later.

Douglas (Douglas), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I! WANT! DIRT!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh you'll get your dirt all right.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I! WANT! DIRT!

WELL! THERE! WERE! HANGOVERS! AFTER THE AFTERPARTY! BUT WE WILL GET! TO THAT! LATER! BUT FOR NOW! I WILL! TAKE! A! NAP!

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 18 April 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Safe and restful sleep.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I want the discussion of Amy's White Blood Cells thing...surely someone saw it and can post about it. Maybe I've gotta check Matos's blog.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Monday, 19 April 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe Matos can get us all up to speed on it next week.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Monday, 19 April 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon Matos or somebody. Last year I think there was a NY Times article on the event. I wonder if there's anything this year?

Actually, like Blount I'd still like to read the Sasha Frere-Jones thing from is it 2 years ago on indie-rock and Malkmus and stuff, but it's never been made available.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Still nothing. I got an e-mail from a friend about Lou Reed's appearance at a special public seder in NY, but still nothing about the Jonathan Richman seder from the EMP thing. Oy, I need to know more.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Monday, 19 April 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Matos must be editing or something. Maybe tomorrow.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hey gang...
I'm just back to work today and reading new threads. Don't have time to get into much, only that I missed the Jojo Seder (which I hear was personal, and hilarious... relating JR songs to the 10 plagues...) but I DID tape the writing session, critical karaoke and the keynote with Vowell and Langford.

Christgau only seems like a crusty old bastard, but we love him anyway. He had a lot of good points about writing as CRAFT.

will post more later. Donna, I missed your invite, and I spent too much for my craptastic Travelodge! (tho it was close to the EMP -- and across from the Hurricane Cafe, so somehow I missed dot too!

I've already started a paper for next year. one of three things I want to get done, along with contributing to a writing panel. The whole thing was inspiring, to say the least. I can hold my own with those geeks anyday.

Dan

Dan Aloi (67Dano), Thursday, 22 April 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon Dan and Matos.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Monday, 26 April 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hey... so what song did Greil critique in Critical Karaoke?

Ken: Greil did Roxy Music's "More Than This"

Steve: I didn't go to Amy's panel, unfortunately, due to other commitments outside the conference I had to do at the time. I don't know if Matos or Dan went.

My only guess why you're being so annoying and pushy about this is because you're writing a paper about the White Stripes. What the hell, dude? I thought I gave you advice on the Amy/White Strips thread already. Did you get anywhere with that advice?

I'll add re: Greil's Critical Karaoke that is was one of the highlights... it was great.
