i've never self-promoted on ILM, but after seeing the yummy yummy chewy chewy thread, i couldn't help myself. it's my new band's first gig! monday 2/23 at lit in nyc...

Lightning Kikes are a new group featuring current and former members of the Trouble Dolls, Les Sans Culottes, and Gaijin a Go-Go, along with the mysterious and previously unaffiliated Barbara on Italian vocals.

Lightning Kikes play covers of American bubblegum, BritGirl, Italian and French Europop, and early '80s anti-pop -- which they often find to be way catchier than the pop it's supposedly in opposition to. And they play originals in the same style, which is to say songs that have hooks, strange key changes, and either don't make any sense at all or make a little too much sense.

LIKES: Ohio Express, Lou Christie, Jackie Lee, Nita Rossi, Luigi Tenco, Michel Polnareff, Mina, Au Pairs, Girls At Our Best.

DISLIKES: Those big evil companies that used to muck up perfectly good sticks of bubblegum by insisting on packaging them with baseball cards.

Yeah, that name is totally unoffensive and a guaranteed crowd pleaser, even if the band is 100% jewish.

i've got no problem with baseball cards as long as (a) they don't force the cards and the gum into the same damn package and (b) there aren't any derek jeters in my pack.
