Howdy readers, we're a DC band called The Shooters. We do twangy rock and roll- imagine Chris Isaak on speed. We would absolutely love to start building bridges and playing out down in Charlottesville. We hear it's a great scene. But we have absolutely no idea where to start! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to know that "________ on ________" (eg Chris Isaak on speed) is an instant turnoff around here.

.. Oh, and so is spam.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather hear Chris Isaak on 'ludes.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, great. Since you guys are more into the whole 13 year old boy muscle-flexing bullshit than answering questions or being helpful in any way, I'll take your hint and leave. God forbid anyone talk to the snotty pre-teen locals around here, huh? Go fuck yourselves.

JR Royall, Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That'll get an audience!

And god bless Google.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, that makes no sense, and who wants an audience full of people like you anyway? It's time to grow up Timmy. Stop hanging around on message boards all day just to prove that you can compensate for your small dick by being a big one. I came on here to get help and info, you're a shit. So who's the asshole here?

JR Royall, Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Like, ease up man.. The first bit of help is, you don't join a bulletin board just to sell yourself. This is for discussing music, not for getting gigs.

Secondly, if anyone was going to help you, you can probably kiss that goodbye for showing up with your guns blazing.

Sorry if you were offended. If you read other threads and see what the discourse is like around here, you'll see that I was being helpful by explaining the etiquette. (Look it up.)

Good luck.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't joining a bulletin board just to sell myself. I was doing it to ask for advice from locals, which is exactly what I did. You could either be helpful like a human being, or be a complete and pointless asshole, which you did. Don't talk to me about having guns blazing you hypocrite. You're the one that came at ME like that.

JR Royall, Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Again, good luck with your band.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was going to be about Cockeysville, Maryland. there aren't any rock clubs here that I know of, but there's a place where they have midget wrestling!

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I live in DC, and wow I really want to see The Shooters now! LOL! ROTFLMAO!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Do shows still go down at the Pud House? Go a google search on that; I know my friends played there on tour a few years ago and said it was awesome.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Trax and the Pudhouse are both closed up now.
The only live music clubs in charlottesville are Tokyo Rose, The Tea Bazaar, some place in the basement of the Outback (I think), and um.....well there aren't that many really. I think all of these have websites if you just look for them.
Also, this site http://www.c-ville.com/ is for the weekly free newspaper and they have a listing for clubs and stuff too.

stolenbus (stolenbus), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh I write for C-ville -- there's also Starr Hill on Main St., and yes the Outback has shows. For acoustic stuff there's coffeehouses Gravity Lounge & Prism. And then The Twisted Branch Tea House has some more adventerous shows.

Timmy?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i've seen your reviews in the c-ville before mark...clarke b. and i were both like "heeeey!"
the twisted branch tea house is what i was referencing when i said tea bazaar....and they do end up with some pretty cool stuff at times. i'm sure they have a website somewhere too.

stolenbus (stolenbus), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, TWO threads?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

... that constitutes a smoking gun methinks
