PAUL WALL

Since people these days seem all up with houston, has anybody copped the new paul wall album "the chick magnet"..

i think he gets a bad rap (HEH) cuz he seems like a poor rhymer next to chamillionaire, but he certainly holds his own.

the first two tracks on this album are incredible - "they don't know" ft. mike jones and the next one which features Bun B and Killer Mike! but then it loses me with all its daisy houston hippie production - the same thing happened with PW and Chamillionaire "Get Your Mind Correct" - a few songs i thought were the greatest ever recorded and the rest falling totally flat.

i've only heard some of his mixes with lil flip which are pretty hilarious.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he's on Shinin!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i had a roommate who was obsessed with that song!

i hated it at first, but like a hit radio single it bore its way into my head and i grew to like it!

joshd, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

it's kind of tragic that he dropped a real album before chamillion did. paul wall's always said rapping is just another sideline. cham is the real star but he needs to make his move.

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

you'd think he would have run out of "i could catch boppas if..." lines by now, too.

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

paul wall's bag lady freestyle is one of my favorite songs ever.

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

he was #4 on TOP 10 GRILLS.

sorry for making so many posts in a row.

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i think paul wall and chamillionaire and the rest of the houston mixtape guys have daisy beats because any beat sounds good screwed and if it doesn't, they can just use whatever beat's hot (and screw that and make it double hot). so, i guess there's no motivation for the producers.

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't have any music by paul wall, mp3 or cd, that's unscrewed, except the paul wall/lil flip - u gotta feel us mixtape and a balla talk ii mp3 (which sounds totally weird after hearing it screwed on the og ron c mixtape so many times [like hearing the tina turner song through the wire samples for the first time in safeway tonight]).

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

wiggins your grills thread is incredible.

I agree with your theory on houston beats. they need them to originally sound upbeat and happy so then screwed they magically turn into what they turn into. anytime ive heard a song unscrewed after only knowing it screwed i am blown away by how corny it is in its natural form.

i think when chamillionaire does drop it will be higher profile than PW. and it will change the world.

i'm a wascally wabbit with a mouthful of karats

William Wiggins, Thursday, 11 March 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm nineteen years old with a mouthful of gold
i'm more cold than the winter, still i'm hot like the summer
i'ma call up michael watts and swing the swishahouse hummer
i'm more hot than the summer, still i'm cool like the fall
i can creep and i can crawl, it's the boy paul wall
and i'ma tell all yall something something something
i might ride with blindside or my boy big tuck
paul wall could catch boppas if i rode on a bike
but i'ma ride in big body with my cousin da scotty
when the fans heads turns people say good golly
it's that boy paul wally, keep it hot like tabasco
hold it down like plaster, got more ice than alaska
acres home is my hood, desoto is my street
all the speedbumps messin up my 20 inch feet
and it just don't stop, antoine's the block

typing that out made me remember how much i loved that style of houston lyricisim or whatever the right word is. that was all i listened to for a few months. i had that freestyle basically memorized.

WHOAAA, i just heard Paul Wall feat Big Pokey "Sittin Sideways" on the radio, this guy is awesome! what album is this from????

Amon (eman), Sunday, 10 April 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

man this thread reminds me how much it bums me out that I could never get joshd to contribute much to Gov't Names.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 11 April 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

what happened to him?

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Monday, 11 April 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

does he still post here?

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Monday, 11 April 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

nah, he said that reading ILM made him hate music (ironically...or not).

Al (sitcom), Monday, 11 April 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

so is this track just a single? and can anyone recommend good tracks with him?

i like all the william wiggins threads.

Amon (eman), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

*other* good tracks with him, i mean.

Amon (eman), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

how's the newish Cham/Paul Wall 'Controversy Sells' which is a reference to the Cham/Mike Jones beef I guess? That also inspired a laughably awful diss from Jones on the Slim Thug 'Dirty Money' mixtape.

i'm loving that 'sittin sideways' is becoming a summer radio hit. i hear the video is getting heavy rotation too. it's hardly any different than the still tippin' video but big pokey is in it so it's awesome.

Ô¿Ô (eman), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

that's a great song. sort of like "still tippin'" in that the backing track sounds better screwed than normal speed.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

i was watching some kind of making the video thing for this.
is it just me or does this guy never shut up?!
it's just constant rambling finished with him showing his shiny teeth.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

You make these sound like negative qualities.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

Paul Wall is going to produce the screwed and chopped version of Transplants' new album.

naus (Robert T), Thursday, 7 July 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

and this a good thing?

That One Guy (That One Guy), Thursday, 7 July 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I made a thread on that already.

deej.., Thursday, 7 July 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Didn't PW also chop & screw Urban Legend?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 July 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Off-topic: someone down in H-Town, send me a Chingo Bling tamale. (Yes, everything I know about Houston I learned 2 weeks ago from Sway.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 July 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Has anybody heard "The People's Champ" yet? The pre-release mixtape (as Dylan from Government Names recently noted in great detail) is a goddamn trainwreck - and I really like "We Don't Give a Fuck."
