(According to my friend his band supposedly sounds like early Depeche/Vince Clarke, which I know must be music to Dan's ears seeing how he loves that era of DM so much.)

Whatever happened to Presence? or Essence? or whatever he/they were called?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

LOL

(sorry, the joke was just WAY too obvious)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Liverhurst

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Liver Hearst?

i seem to remember him touring solo with a groovebox a few years back. i didn't go but i heard part of the act involves cure samples.

this all reminds me when I was with family in O.C. for Xmas 1989, and my slightly younger cousin Julianna was well into her Love and Rockets/Cure/Depeche Mode phase, and she was in the middle of high school. I had told her that Lol Tolhurst, one of the founding members of the Cure, left the group. She immediately freaked out "OH MY GOD, NOOOOOOO!!". She had one of the last Cure posters with Lol in it (possibly around the time "Fascination Street" had already come out as a single), and I pointed out to her which member in the poster had left, and she was sooo relieved. "OH THANK GOD, HE WAS EASILY THE UGLIEST ONE OF THEM ALL... I LOVE THE CURE, THEY'RE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE GUY, BUT NOW HE'S GONE... YAY! :) :) "

I knew this had to be a Ned thread.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan would have just been more immediately abusive (perhaps).

Donut Bitch's story is a thing of love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, from what I remember, Lol look especially hideous on that poster... he looked like a mix between a failed audition to be a member of Dead Or Alive, and Jocelyn Wildenstein, with a Soul Glo perm.

Aww, sweet Lol. His place in history is assured for two reasons (apart from the old classic "colour-coding your keyboard keys cos you can't play for shit" obv):

1. When he took Robert to court, and didn't win at all, and Melody Maker sub-editors came up with the best headline ever, "LOL'S A POOR LOSER"

2. When he appeared in the semaphore bit of the "Why Can't I Be You" video and unbeknownst to him, the rest of the band had conspired to put him in place of the second word/letter, ie

1. Y
2. CUNT
3. I
4. B
5. U

Oh such japes. Wonder what Leberwurst sound like?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i love that footage of robert pushing him in a wheelchair straight into a wall of bushes

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Sunday, 14 March 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The MM reporting of that entire court case was hysterical. Reason enough by itself to justify Lol's existence.

Ricardo (RickyT), Sunday, 14 March 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

was it funnier than morrissey's day in court?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 14 March 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

so nobody went to this thing? I'm disappointed.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 14 March 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

why it sounded lame

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Sunday, 14 March 2004 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki is wise.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I kind of assume folks who own every Cure album and b-side aren't afraid of things that sound lame.

Tee hee!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

You roughgrouse, you lame horse's balls. Etc.

That Dan has not even posted once on this thread worries me.
