(well, if I did all the classic/duds, why need a thread make?)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 29 March 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know 'Jungle Rock' or 'This Perfect Day'. I can't think of any real duds of those I've heard. 'Kimble' and 'I'm Going To Spain' are far and away my favourites.

The Real Old Fall Covers Thread (Formerly Hester On The Grout):

Fall Covers

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 29 March 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was a thread for when bands cover Fall songs, like the Fiery Furnaces' "Winter" (classic!)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont really like any of the covers that much (or if i do, i prefer the original in those cases)

as for covers of fall songs, that might be more interesting. i dont know of any that are good though. i didnt like the fiery furnaces cover of winter at all (although Winter is my favourite fall song, so perhaps it would be harder for me to like a cover of that)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Dymaxion did a fantastic rendition of "US 80s vs 90s" (did I get the title right? I dunno) which for my money is The Best-ah Cover of the Fall-ah, Ev-ah . . .

This Perfect Day is a splendid cover in that case. It always sounds like I'm on something. Well, I guess.

I can't think of any really great Fall-covers, but Two States by Pavement almost would make the list.

awww I love "Jungle Rock"!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I loved "Strychnine" too!

personally I can't imagine a cover OF the Fall working, unless it was one of their atpyically lyrically succint ones, like "Frenz" (which is actually something I tried to get a band I was in to cover). "The Classical" was wack and though I haven't heard the Fiery Furnaces version, like Gareth says "Winter" is such a fave that I can't imagine I'd like a remake.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Classical" was wack

Pavement's I mean. They left out the dirty words!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

fiery furnaces cover of "winter" is very unlikeable

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

their cover of 'shut up' is the high point of 'middle class revolt' for me

also 'war'

ultra klassic covers of the fall - god is my co-pilot's asphyxiating take on "totally wired" & saint etienne doing "choc-stock"(!!!).

I like "mr pharmacist", "lost in music", "black monk theme pt 1". need to hear more, but the only tracks where I know the originals are the chic & the lee perry covers so um.

etc, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"Choc-Stock" is insane! etc OTM
