...shits all over the original from a splattery, disconcertingly runny height. Discuss.

"disconcertingly runny", classic

Alex, you are contributing to the media frenzy!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only caught a snippet of "I Believe I Can Fly." Sounds like Pro Tools were used to achieve a certain level of craptasticness.

i seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY want him to cover "sex bomb"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i realize this makes me as bad as everyone i ever criticized for liking wesley willis

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard it. Is it as good as his "Hoterr Carrifornia"?

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Wesley Willis kicks this guy's ass. He wrote his own song(s), toured, tried to overcome his problems - this guy just took the short, lame route to notoriety.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

strongo-welcome to MY level

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Thursday, 8 April 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

if I was in Hung's shoes, and holy fuck thank god I'm not, I might take that easy way as well and laugh all the way to the bank.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 8 April 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

although the whole "phenomenon" makes me queasy for reasons better explained in David Ng's Village Voice article here: http://villagevoice.com/issues/0414/ng.php

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 8 April 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I like when they put him on talk shows to laugh in his face, like when they had him on ET and gave him vocal lessons and the previous American Idol pig-fucks went on to laugh too, because he's Asian and kinda stupid, and not human.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 8 April 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

What would it take to satiate the Village Voice's raging P.C hormones?
This is the same kind of B.S that got the Taco Bell dog banned from
the airwaves.
I bet there are Scots who are angered by Groundskeeper
Willie. And unreasonably so: Mockery is humor and no group
should be exempt.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my Lord, he brings up _Lost In Translation_ again.
This is not improving.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the point of the article, though, is that this guy isn't a fictional character. He's an actual person who's been reduced to a charicature. Groundskeeper Willie never was anything but a charicature.

Prude (Prude), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

But Squirrel, I think there's a difference between a fictional cartoon character, and a real person who they drag around to laugh at.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Yeah same post same time.

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

He wrote his own song(s), toured, tried to overcome his problems - this guy just took the short, lame route to notoriety.
Somewhat OTM.

My problem with Willis fans was that they were mostly in it to laugh at him and his problems. It was one-sided.

Hung doesn't have that out, he's being mocked of his own free will. (Though I thought he was suffering from Down's Syndrome the first time I saw a photo.)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not "dragging" him around. As the author mentions,
he's capitalizing on the publicity, desperate for any attention
no matter how negative. I have little sympathy.

As for Willis, I've heard that his live audiences could be way
harsh and disrespectful, but I never felt guilty for liking him.
I thought he was talented, in his own way. His solo stuff
is a bit hard to take, but The Wesley Willis Experience is
genuinely enjoyable.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn complainers! How about we shove you back in the internment
camps, how would ya like that!

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 8 April 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not as if Hung doesn't know what's going on. I heard him somewhere talking about how he's not famous for the right reasons, but he will accept the money.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Thursday, 8 April 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Is William really hung? Has anybody looked down there and checked?

Thank you everybody, GOOD NIGHT!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 8 April 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Anything by William Hung >>>>> entertainment value than anything the Eagles ever did

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 8 April 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Barry just won a beer!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

William Hung's entire "music" career has been worth it if only for "...shits all over the original from a splattery, disconcertingly runny height".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Was this on the radio? What kind of radio station would play something like that?

I'm really asking. What kinds of songs do they normally play?

Aja (aja), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"She Bangs" is actually getting play on top 40 radio stations in New York and LA. Last week the Top 9 @ 9 countdown in LA had Usher at #9 and William Hung at #8.

So how many William Hung wannabes will show up at the next American Idol auditions?

Lesley, Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

This is awful!

Luckily the closest thing I've heard to a William Hung song on the radio I listen too is a remix of his audition. It's better. It's all out of sequence and it's got like this electronic music in the backround.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus Christ, you didn't see us in the UK going apeshit over the YMCA girl, did you? She just got a pizza advert and then fucked off back to obscurity.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I saw a breif moment on the news

Aja (aja), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I saw taht two

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 8 April 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ten months pass...
Someone gave the William Hung album to a friend for his birthday last weekend. The "Hotel California" cover is by far the best thing on the album, and has some charm. The Elton John/Lion King covers are the worst, though. I think it's enjoyable in the way that you're cheering on a friend who's doing karaoke. That and it makes the source material seem kind of goofy.
