I am currently plowing my way through this and I am finding it staggeringly brilliant beyond belief. I have always been a fan of Toop?s writing (esp. Ocean of Sound) but this takes him to another level. It?s a fantastic journey through modern sound in the digital age and collates a lot of the ideas which have been floating around for some time now on such topics. For me the crux of this book, as Toop himself identifies, is ?the impact of digital technology on our humanistic conceptions of music and performance?. A vast topic but one which Toop handles in sublime fashion. He is often willfully oblique about making his point but more often than not he is so very on the mark.

So this is the thread where we discuss Haunted Weather and our ideas resulting from reading it. Anyone else reviewing it? I am yet to formulate my criticisms. This thread may take a while to get going.

has anyone read ocean of sound by david toop?

What books about music ARE worth the paper they're printed on?

Am I alone in thinking that I would have preferred the new David Toop book to be called Hott Butt Action?
