Jesus this is amazing!

I also would like more suggestions. Also which Coolie stuff to search? I have the Cecile-Do It To Me (Coolie Riddim) and Mr Vegas Pull Up.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

tok unknown language and genie dance by elephant man. there's also a mix of milkshake on this rhythm. it's a pretty old rhythm so there's a greensleeves rhythm album with about 22 versions. it's abt a tenner.

Coolie Dance Riddim (& Other Riddims)

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

check the mad instruments rhythm if you like dancehall a little faster and look on my blog!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"move your body" by a latina duo called Nina Sky has been burning up the big apple the last couple of months.

pheNAM (pheNAM), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

God I really need to hear more dancehall, particularly anything that sounds like Chicago house! I am going to play this riddim everytime I dj.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i am kind of amazed this is blowing up in america as much as it is

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"Move Your Body" is amazing...she does this vocal thing 3/4ths of the way through that makes me think of Shannon or some electro-dance track from the early 80s.

djdee2005, Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

There's also a track by Pitbull f. Lil Jon called "Culo" that uses this riddim; that's where I heard it, cuz we got it in the radio station here.

djdee2005, Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of great dance riddims, has anyone heard the Ambulance riddim? This shit should BLOW UP. Its crazy.

djdee2005, Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

RAISE YO HAND, RAISE YO FLAG!

Fresh - "Get Ready" is my favorite of the songs using the ambulance riddim so far.

djdee2005, Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That Pitbull track is great.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i just saw a T.O.K. video on mtv jams.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha. Was it a good video?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

no! but i dont think it matters.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

haha an hour before that i saw a shabba ranks video

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

FLEX time to have SEX

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Heavy D is so gonna be making a comeback.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

mtv jams is like a heroin drip

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You can hit a button and get more?

Diminishing returns?

After you turn it off you are desperate for more?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ding ding ding!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha #1 reason I am so glad I don't have cable.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Every time I house sit for someone with cable I spend like 8 hours every day watching BET and VH1 and MTV. I have a problem.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i almost wish they weren't running this digital cable special right now. 18 video channels are too much for one man.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

18!!! I salute you for taking time to turn them off and type stuff on ILX.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Or alternately to type while watching them.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

no, the tv is downstairs!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a rich life i lead

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(btw am i the only person mildly queasy about an "eastern" flavored riddim with the word "coolie" in the title?)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I probably should be, but really I hadn't thought about it until you had just mentioned it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it occurred to me late last year.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

jamaica in politcally incorrect non-shocker.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Somehow I don't see a big Abercrombie & Fitch style boycott campaign.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Boycotting all music that is politically incorrect? Sounds good to me.

(Is coolie a derogatory slang term I should know about?)

djdee2005, Friday, 7 May 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

coolie.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What does the coolie dance actually involve? (I may regret asking this.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Slave labor.

djdee2005, Friday, 7 May 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

My favourite track on Coolie Dance is the one with the female vocal that goes "all ladies [insert words] on the dancefloor, everybody on the floor tonight, everybody [insert words], for sure!"

Which version is that again??

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 7 May 2004 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

mr. vegas? (it's a dude, btw.)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

which is amazingly BLOWING THE FUCK UP in america right now

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a version with Twista, Elephant Man and Young Bloodz which is very good.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

and could surely go big in America

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

There's some additional production on that version.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

and one of the babies looked at me

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it is already quite huge, as well.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

btw am i the only person mildly queasy about an "eastern" flavored riddim with the word "coolie" in the title?

i wrote about this last year but as it's not really very east-asian flavoured, i'm not too bothered. in any case, it's such an archaism that i hardly think anyone would be particularly arsed about it now.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"mr. vegas? (it's a dude, btw.)"

Really? I knew the parts in between that vocal were male but it seemed too high even for Vegas or Chico or the falsetto from TOK.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

if anyone has any sense the mr vegas and irishman track on the red alert will see a commercial release and top the charts the world over

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah that one is awesome thanks for pointing me towards it Dave. BTW I picked up the Vybz disc today (discounted a bit yay) and it has a bonus Freestyle disc! I haven't listened to it yet though.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 7 May 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the bonus disc is great it's w/ kunley fr/ ward 21 and there's a brilliant bit where he fucks up and vyz is chiding him and getting the giggles. only about 15/20mins long, but good.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a version with Twista, Elephant Man and Young Bloodz which is very good.

Jook Gal.

I really like the Ce'cile ("Give It To Me") and Sean Paul ("Feel Alright") as well as the b-side w/ Malawi (?) Indian chanting.

OCP (OCP), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What's next, the Jungle Bunny Riddim?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I just remembered the version I most love is "Bare As She Dare" - that isn't the same as the Mr. Vegas one is it?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 8 May 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

" the b-side w/ Malawi (?) Indian chanting"

yep ocp wins
