Thanks, now I have MTV 1989 stuck in my head. Although that does mean "Love Song" every two hours, I can live with that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

If by gay you mean gay, then yes, absolutely.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha cutty, that video is probably the only time I've seen a neon Body Glove springsuit outside of Orange County.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

What an interesting time it was around then in California hard rock fashion. I think glamour boy Corey Glover and epic Mike Patton were shopping at the same spandex outlet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I hated this band.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually that's Dan and I starring in the proper version of that video, wherein the two glamour boys are toasted and feasted by all and we are worshipped as gods.

What an interesting time it was around then in California hard rock fashion.

Which considering that Living Colour was a New York band...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

D'OH!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting hair placement though.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

well, it at least gives guitarists with oral fixations something to do while soloing.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

so, bassists, in this case.. duh

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

actually at that time, the lead singer of faith no more was this guy:

http://www.fnm.com/faq/Chuck.jpg

who left faith no more to sing for Bad Brains when HR left.

it reminds me a bit of the horses that kids make out of upside down broomsticks. also, it reminds me of the cake that i got for my friend's birthday last summer.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Anything else from the Gwar collection that cutty can post?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

CHUCK MOSELY WAS IN BAD BRAINS!?!?!! Woah. I didn't know this.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The dicktar now has a thread of its own.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"This is a one only Custom made guitar.

Designed and Crafted by Steven R M Acworth know as a genius for making odd shaped instruments for professional Musicians. This guitar was made for a punk band back in the 80's."

OK, PLACE YOUR BETS PEOPLE! WHO WAS THAT PUNK BAND?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

help. now i have "falling to pieces" stuck in my head.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

SOMEBODY PUT ME TOGETHER

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm guessing the "punk band" in question was Gwar, but maybe I'm wrong.

(I mean, who else could it be?)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, the Dicktar is seriously disturbing.

Chuck Mosely was briefly in Bad Brains, yes....to no great affect.

I listened to Vivid not too long ago, and was somewhat repelled. I used to quite dig the album, but Reid's soloing is just so tunelessly noodley in so many songs.

"Middle Man" still has a great riff, tho'.

"Glamour Boys" = worst song on the album

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hoping Tackhead's Doug Wimbish being added to Living Colour's line up would shake up things, but alas, Doug was just "the bassist" and didn't seem to have much influence/change in their musical output... sigh.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ever notice Soundgarden's first coupla releases kinda sound like Tackhead at points? ("Little Joe" "Fopp" etc.)

sexyDancer, Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably the mutual appreciation for Hendrix and Funkadelic at work... if only Soundgarden had employed Steve Fisk as a band member, then they really would have sounded like Tackhead! But then, what would Chris Cornell do besides play guitar and do hair whips?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm pretty sure Chris Cornell was originally soundgarden's drummer... i think he drums on some of the material discussed on this thread (ie, late 80s).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if "Glamour Boys" is the best song on the album, but it's easily my favorite. I like "Funny Vibe" too.

Reid's soloing is just so tuneless[]

mentalism

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

re: Diktar... I'm just astonished that they didn't take advantage of the already perfectly shaped neck. why put a second piece on there?!?!

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Gabbneb: Funny, "Open Letter" was just on VH1 Classic a coupla days ago.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my old college roommates roadied for Living Colour for a few months, but he crashed the van into a brick wall and got fired.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to Vivid not too long ago, and was somewhat repelled. I used to quite dig the album, but Reid's soloing is just so tunelessly noodley in so many songs

When I revisited Vivid many years after digging it, the thing that stood out to me was how much I didn't like the sound of Reid's guitar any more.

I've heard horror stories about him using so many pedals live that his guitar winds up sounding like a cheap strat through a crummy practise amp tho, so maybe that's what it is...
