-- nickalicious (nza2342...), May 10th, 2004.

They have some great (and by great, I mean by early 90s Calgary Alberta standards) songs on the Bloodbath at the Chinese Disco compilation. "I'm On Glue" roolz. Also on that comp are the great El Caminos and Pussy Monster and Huevos Rancheros.

Some '80s Canadian band called Bugs Harvey Oswald allegedly received a bit of a hassle at the USA border due to their "controversial" name, which actually referred not to JFK's (alleged?) assassin, but to three fictional movie rabbits of the past: two animated ones plus the figmentary James Stewart co-star.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone mentioned Jackie O Motherfucker yet?

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

And then there was The Sid Presley Experience, who later became The Godfathers, and whose name was chosen (I assume) to simultaneously evoke the 1950s, '60s and '70s. (There was nobody named Sid Presley in the band.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

John Cougar Concentration Camp
Nat King Kong

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 10 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a great band formed by ex-member of Buttsteak (itself not the greatest of names) called the LEE HARVEY KEITEL BAND. If you can find their album, it's great. They broke up, of course, and the lead singer and drummer carried on as a duo under the name SPQR.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 10 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

These band names are fucking great. I don't know what the guy that created this thread, this "my name is limitless" chap is thining.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 10 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Stock, Hausen and Walkman.

How many puns is that exactly?

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 10 May 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The Mr T Experience

Then there's two even more wildly creative ones:
Charles Bronson
Sissy Spacek

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Monday, 10 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, wait,
Jackie O Motherfucker, Kentucky Fried Children, Stock Hausen and Walkman, and others...these are great names, and NOT what I'm complaining about.

I'm talking about the very specific convention, it's not really even a pun, of yoking two unrelated terms for no reason other than they share a word or an initial. Usually the first term is a celebrity of some sort:
JFK + KFC = JFKFC
Brian Jones + Jonestown Massacre = you get the idea. I don't like it because it's lazy and mistakes cleverness for wit. So there!

Didn't fucknuts mcgee, er Dave whatever talk about this in his Staggering Genius book, thereby making all subsequent discussion of it horribly sad and pathetic?

Yeah, what a shitty book, I couldn't get past the first chapter, and I guess I never read the part you mention. Now, you apparently liked it enough to read all the way through, so...wait, what were you saying?

I don't know what the guy that created this thread, this "my name is limitless" chap is thining.

Mr. Snrub can you rephrase this? If you're complaining about my Boredoms in-joke handle, I plead guilty.
