Jadakiss - "The Champ Is Here"

another Green Lantern creation, swiping the verses from "Time's Up" and making it way hotter (which isn't really a big deal in itself, the original's another lame slick Dre/Storch thing). supposedly Jada liked it so much he's going to put new verses to it for his album. the funny part, though, is that the hook is a sample of Will Smith as Muhammad Ali banging a bongo and going "the champ is here". I hope when the official version drops it's labelled Jadakiss f/ the Fresh Prince.

Seriously, this mixtape is really hot.

It'll be better than the album, no doubt.

All the tracks I've heard from the new Jadakiss album sound great! Any info on it? Will this be my chance to finally expand upon my only intermittent and vague Jadakiss/LOX love?

what tracks have you heard?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 17 June 2004 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i do love this. "kiss of death" (the song) too. the kanye track less so, but it's alright.

I believe the Jada mixtape in question is also called "The Champ is Here."

jada's cackle must remain perfect and untouched, like the clipse's UGH

Actually you should wait a few days before reading that -- the all-important revisions need to kick in.

An arbitrarily-picked Pitchfork thread to read instead.

I don't know where AMG is coming from on hip-hop these days, first the Ghostface review and now this one. Obv. this time around it's not quite as much of an injustice b/c Pretty Toney >>>> Kiss of Death, but the latter is still a really solid album - in AMG's praise-skewered universe, it should be at least 4 stars.

It appears Strongo serves his opinions on a skewer as well.

Stacey Pollen (Andy K), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

why exactly?

Josh Love (screamapillar), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Strongo must hate him because, you know, Jada's awesome.

Seriously tho Jada guest appearances > jada albums.

Ghost and Jada should do an album together...they'd be a great team simply bcuz they contrast so well.

for a long time I really disliked Jada, thought he was the most boring guy in the Lox and was annoyed by all his "top five dead or alive" boasting. but over the last couple years I've kinda warmed to him. his voice sounds even raspier these days, which I think is a plus, and sometimes his lyrics are a little more contemplative or his swagger is just more convincing. don't know if I'll cop this album unless I hear some really good tracks, though.
