deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:30 (twenty years ago) link

I'm in! Are you planning on driving up that day and can you pick up disreputable OC types along the way?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago) link

(Also, please tell me the damn thing hasn't sold out yet.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago) link

yes. but i don't know about the tickets - i don't think it's sold out yet.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:32 (twenty years ago) link

Wiltern's a sizeable enough venue these days without the seats, so yeah, I figure such is the case. I'll look into this...

There was talk of some sort of FAP as well, as there's a good chance @d@ml will be in town for the show.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago) link

OMG the tickets cost $32!!!

vahid (vahid), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago) link

a concert don't come for free

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago) link

THE WILTERN BE GOUGIN'

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:38 (twenty years ago) link

I was about to say, frankly I would have expected them to cost more!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:43 (twenty years ago) link

$32 is insane... and the Wiltern is not an ideal concert venue. It's sort of stuffy, with tiny seats all crammed together.

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:48 (twenty years ago) link

Uh, please note my comment about the seats above -- namely, that they're not there anymore. (On the floor, at least -- they still have them in the balconies.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:49 (twenty years ago) link

The venue needs MORE seats. Geezers need excitement too, you guys.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:51 (twenty years ago) link

(i got jokez)

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:54 (twenty years ago) link

youre funny and you know it.

(looks like im up on the terrible pun of the day contest)

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago) link

Whoops, sorry, Ned - Last show I caught there was still seat-ful. But, then, I still say $32 is insane.
I remember someone bitching about Godspeed You Black Emperor tickets costing $20, and one of the band members said "well, you know, we have to pay like 15 band members and people." That made sense.

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:00 (twenty years ago) link

I may be in, and I can get tickets directly from the venue tomorrow, V, cutting out the Ticketmaster surcharges, sticking it to the man....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:00 (twenty years ago) link

Suave. (Ask how the sales are going when you're there, as I might wish to follow suit and wait on the day.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago) link

mmmmmmeeeeeeeee

Lukas (lukas), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:28 (twenty years ago) link

Check yer e-mail Jsoulja. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:11 (twenty years ago) link

I'm skipping this as I've seen them both already.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago) link

Aw. Hm, but FAP beforehand perhaps?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago) link

And indeed, FAP plans are now in the making.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago) link

I have an extra ticket if anyone wants it. I mean PLEASE BUY IT OFF ME.

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 10 June 2004 23:06 (twenty years ago) link

great show but when dizzee did lotd2trk27 i wish he'd stuck to the original beat. does that track have a title btw?

Lukas (lukas), Sunday, 13 June 2004 08:19 (twenty years ago) link

was that the "tipsy" or "rubberband man" freestyle?

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 13 June 2004 08:50 (twenty years ago) link

also was this what you remember as his set?? am i missing anything?

i luv u
stop dat
beatless freestyle (parts cribbed from "brand new day"??)

i didn't really catch what he was doing with tipsy/rubberband man since i was busy bouncing about and annoying the people around me ... was one of them "hold ya mouf"??

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 13 June 2004 08:56 (twenty years ago) link

OH YEAH - DEAN OTMFM!!

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 13 June 2004 08:56 (twenty years ago) link

Good to finally see them both -- Dizzee had the more consistent set, Streets had some great high points. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 June 2004 14:11 (twenty years ago) link

Good times.

Akiva Gottlieb, Sunday, 13 June 2004 17:41 (twenty years ago) link

Musta been the "rubberband man" freestyle.

Lukas (lukas), Sunday, 13 June 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago) link

yeah it was hilarity. big cheers for "tipsy", big blank looks for "rubberband man". especially after dizzee introduced it as "here's one ya all know!!"

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 13 June 2004 19:14 (twenty years ago) link

Also the Wiltern is a bit fascist. And the crowd was 90% sober! Although there were a couple drunk frat boys in back singing along to all the Streets songs and slapping each others' asses.

Lukas (lukas), Sunday, 13 June 2004 19:24 (twenty years ago) link

did they perform together?

they did the day before and it was pretty great.

marissa, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:14 (twenty years ago) link

Alas, no direct performance together onstage, but Dizzee was seen by our bunch on the side dancing away for most of the Streets set.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:26 (twenty years ago) link

oh, really? i feel special now. the backup singer mentioned in the other thread wasn't there, and dizzee sang backup for the entire streets set. it was a very pleasant surprise.

marissa, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:49 (twenty years ago) link

! That would have been amazing! But nope, that isn't what happened with us. I wonder if the other fellow was sick that night or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 02:05 (twenty years ago) link

Dizzee's going to be in Sydney 23rd July at the Gaelic Club

mentalist (mentalist), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 02:10 (twenty years ago) link

trying to imagine dizzee singing fake-rnb-stylee, brain chunks flying everywhere
