Charlie Rose (Charlie Rose), Thursday, 22 July 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Other threads that might help:

CDR700MB Go! 1978
the ILMer considers 1978-82 to be the greatest ever years for music, and the real lifer thinks they're the worst.
Best album of every year since....

Answers you probably don't want:

Louie Ramirez y Sus Amigos (especially for "En un Beso la Vida")
Tipica 73: Encendida (especially for "Baila Que Baila")
Hector Lavoe: Comedia (try "Bandolera" though some of the samba-inflected stuff is nice too)

I forgot the very classic:

Willie Colon & Ruben Blades: Siembra

I can listen to this on real live radio, not just the internet. WPRB is still the best radio station in Philadelphia. I think that sould be the slogan. (Cut off the "is" though.) Not that this stuff is really my cup of tea, but overall you know. And I missed the Raintcoats, probably my favorite thing in this set she played.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This Heat "24 Track Loop"
Scritti Politti "Is and Ought the Western World"
The Fall "Repetition"
some Chic
that Short People song

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it might be over at 5:00, unfortunately.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, here comes a different DJ.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was going to be just starting. I have never been able to figure out timezone stuff.

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in the same timezone and I still missed it, so that's no excuse. (Or I have no excuse, or something like that.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you WPRB people boost your signal lately? This is coming in so clear.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, "Good Times" really is that good isn't it? I'll have to add it to my to buy list.

(This is not playing on WPRB, incidentally, but I thought I'd put it here, since they were playing some ironic disco or something.)

I want to learn to hustle!

My foot feels all better.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to Sunny 104.5. (Not for long I think. Is this Phil Collins?)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 23 July 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

the show was OK! [our playlist software is wonky right now so i cant post the url] i pulled a bunch of 78 records and then once it started, i got bored with the idea. i was also distracted by the fact that i had left my wallet in philadelphia and my car's gas tank was a hair above "E." the turntables acted all wacky on me PLUS i kept screwing up on using the new cd players* so i was all flustered. not my best show but fun to do regardless.

thanks for all your suggestions! yes, that really was my mom on the mic during my 4:00 break.

* i dont think this has been mentioned on ILM but WPRB moved to a brand new station about a month and a half ago. still on campus but leaky-air conditioner free. i believe our signal strength was fixed last summer. most listener problems have more to do with geography than anything on our end. [in example: i know west philly listeners run into trouble trying to listen but most of them are stuck at the bottom of the hills here. i live on top of spruce hill and have no trouble getting a signal. also, some station at 47th & kingsessing uses our signal to broadcast their gospel station.]
