Elastica "Connection"

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

well, it's not quite a sample but elastica's "connection" makes use of the general tune

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oops. what he said...

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

xxx-post

Are you talking about "Connection" by Elastica? Because they didn't sample "Three Girl Rhumba", they just lifted the riff from it.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not a sample per se, but Elastica borrowed the tune for their song "Connection"

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha you fuckin guys were all too late.

'Whats the song that rips off "Three Girl Rhumba" by Wire?' would be a more accurate question, though, unless there's another?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm assuming Gear's was a joke.

x-post I certainly hope so.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Lifting the riff exactly and playing it yourself may as well be sampling. Dr. Dre does that a loot.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean a lot. Maybe it costs less loot?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah -

"Chuck D: Copyright laws pretty much led people like Dr. Dre to replay the sounds that were on records, then sample musicians imitating those records. That way you could get by the master clearance, but you still had to pay a publishing note."

(from the Stay Free interview with Chuck D and Hank Shocklee

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 23 July 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 23 July 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the song is imaginatively titled 'three girl rhumba'

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 23 July 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm Justine Frischmann.

I wrote all of Blur's hits.

Could you spare a few pence for a cuppa tea?

Justine Frischmann (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 23 July 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't you just ask your dad?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 24 July 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Daydreamer" was definitely a Wire clone but didn't actually use "Three Girl Rhumba" for the riff -- trying to recall what they did use, though, if anything.
