Right now I love the fucking hell out of Portobella's "Covered in Punk" (cheap come-ons for shits and giggles, the REAL Avril Lavigne), Stacie Orrico's "I Could Be the One" (spunky Christian garrage from America) and The Browns' "The Three Bells" (fated small-town solidarity from 1959; protagonist winds up in VU's "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" for no good reason at all). Whee!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 2 August 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Lil' Flip w/ Lea - "Sunshine"

this is so, so wonderful it almost makes up for the first single (where everyone chants "Flip!" over and over and over)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 2 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus fucking christ in a beautiful diabetic coma, vh1 classic's "the alternative" just followed up "here's where the story ends" with "wood beez."

that is all.

I can't stop listening to "thug love" by nicole wray, featuring peedicrack... it's really lovely and dense

dave k, Monday, 2 August 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet you want the goodies

adam west (adamwest), Monday, 2 August 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Natasha Bedingfield's new song, it's the bit where she names the chords and they go clang clang clang that does it for me. Also, it's funny to have a song going "I love you, I love you, I love you", when not two seconds ago she was declaring her love of the single life.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

There's this one song that I think has the same riddim from "Juke Gal" with girls singing this chorus "move your body girl, makes the fellas go OOOOH the way you ride it girl, makes the fellas go". It has one of my favorite synth lines on the radio right now on the hook part. I love it. Does anybody know the name? I know this is one of those "OMG DO YOU LIVE IN A CAVE!?!" things, and yes, yes I do live in a cave. So info pls k thx bye.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 2 August 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though I have yet to hear her on the radio, I'm assuming by her appearance on Ryan Seacrest's show that Nellie McKay counts as pop, in which case I will reiterate here how ridiculously creepily infatuated I am with her right now. I hope "Change the World" becomes a single and it gets played 20 times a day on every radio station in the universe.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 2 August 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick, it's "Move Ya Body" by Nina Sky!!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 2 August 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Nina Sky - Move Ya Body

JoJo's song is the most insanely catchy thing I have heard all year. It haunts me round the clock.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks to the rolling singles thread, I've found loads of great pop songs from this year that I wouldn't have heard on the radio. The ones on heavy rotation right now are Est'elle "1980", J-Five's "Modern Times", Girls Aloud "The Show" and Rachel Stevens "Some Girls". Oh, and Portobella's "Covered In Punk" which is amazing.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

You can thank Matthew Fluxblog for this, but also check out "Emerald City" and "La Discoteca" by United States of Electronica. Aural crack.

Aural crack! I just read that same phrase in a review of Underworld's "Moaner."

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(off topic, sorry)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The phrase "the REAL Avril Lavigne" should be appalling to a popist

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I really really really like Javine's "Don't Walk Away". Girl finally delivers on promise of "You Used To"!
