I live in Atlanta, and our power was shut off for the day yesterday, so we decided to go to Athens, GA on a whim. When we got there, it turned out Pylon was playing their first show in 13 years! It was f-ing incredible, i danced till i passed out..

oh rad, I thought there were rumours they were back. Good to hear it was fun. How much old/new stuff did they play?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I am all for this.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 6 August 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, are you serious? i had a dream last summer that they reunited.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 August 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Last night was the first night of the HHBTM popfest. If I were in Athens, I'd have definitely had to hit the Pylon reunion instead.

mike a, Friday, 6 August 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Did they play "Crazy"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb (ddb), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, now how can i book them?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

If you find out how to book them, share with the class.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to see Pylon.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's the dirt.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I could forsee a trip to Philly if you pull this off, Maria.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"There will be a 2-disc set of stuff from them including rarities and live material released next year (late winter / early spring-ish)."

I hope this won't repeat stuff from Hits.

artdamages (artdamages), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps that will be our new rule -- eff booking NEW bands! plain parade is only going to book reunion shows from now on.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hey maria...now you got the idea! Who needs new music when you have music from 20 years ago! You missed the Homosexuals, though. I'll send them your way next time. Next chance-The Nightingales with Jon Langford, perhaps.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Chameleons were great in Philly when I saw them. Heck, so were The Pretty Things.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

some of the best shows I've seen in the last few years:

Metal Urbain, the Homosexuals, Soft Boys, Wire, Savage Republic, Sun City Girls, Buzzcocks, Alternative TV, TV Smith, etc.

and yeah, I've missed all the Mission of Burma shows, but they apparently destroyed.

I always expect old bands to totally not have it anymore, but many have suprised.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I went and saw Mission Of Burma here on Martha's Vineyard a couple weeks back and they were really good. And I'm not a huge fan. Their "Astronomy Domine" cover was nice.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

add Liquid Liquid and ESG to my list of bands that could totally teach the kids how it's done. The singer from Liquid Liquid was at the Andrew Weatherall set at APT last night as was Stuart from Ike Yard/Dominatrix. Weatherall played Medium Medium, Quando Quango, ACR, Section 25. I wish I could say I was living my early 80s New York/Manchester club dream, but the crappy layout of APT gets in the way every time.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll bring this up again...
I still can't say who it is
until I get the OK

The original line-up of a highly influential post-punk band is reforming (for the first time) to tour later this year !

peepee (peepee), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

we were offered the nightingales show but had to turn it down for a variety of reasons.

ive only seen mission of burma twice -- once before my self-imposed ban of attending clear-channel shows and the other at this year's siren fest [because it wasnt a cc venue]. the first time was better, i think.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't just a good show for a reunited band, it was awesome period. It was a secret show in this building right around from the 40 Watt and it sold out soon after the doors opened. But they kept letting people in. It was absolutely packed, some watching from outside the windows.

It was sauna-hot in there; i wouldn't have been surprised to see people passed out. Yet everyone (at least in the front where i was) was dancing!

Like that blog says, Curtis is going out of town. I met Vanessa after the show and asked her to sign the 'Sold Out' sign for a friend of mine and she was sweet and started looking around the stage for a set list instead. She said the show was basically last minute, and that Curtis is going to Hawaii to do construction work for a while. She didn't say anything really about future shows..

The funny thing was, it seemed to me they were all surprised that many people showed up. One of my friends who found out about it said they were actually worried not enough would! I don't think they're aware of how many fans they have all over the world..

Adam Bruneau, Friday, 6 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

this is great news

kephm, Friday, 6 August 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Burma twice (once at the infamous Clear Channel show - I wasn't aware of that fact, though - and at Siren). I wound up DANCING by the end of both concerts. In part because they played "Youth Of America" and in part because its hard to feel self-conscious when they won't stop smiling at you.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 6 August 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice review of the show (with setlist).
