great latin rap from 2004 so far:

Triple Seis Only Time'll Tell great diss-track about Fat Joe kicking him out of Terror Squad, fun electrobump, emo rapping, "La Shortie" about crazed hot little groupie

Crooked Stilo Puro Escandalo Salvadoran brothers with heavy salsa/son/cumbia influence on tracks, real live horns and stuff

Kinto Sol Hecho en Mexico Mex-Am brothers from Milwaukee, great but generic, good tracks though by DJ Payback Garcia

Akwid KOMP 104.9 identical twin brothers out of L.A., very hip in the video

best of 2003: Control Machete's amazing comeback record Uno, Dos: Bandera and the rap bits of El Gran Silencio's Super Riddim Internacional

― hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

latin rap i own and enjoy, for the record:

the beatnuts - classic nuts vol.1

big punisher - capital punishment

cypress hill - first two albums, although there are prob only 4/5 tracks i'd bother listening to off each.

not a very wide selection. fangs for the recommendations, folks.

Baby Bash's new record has 32 different guests, all of whom I think are Latino: South Park Mexican, Don Cisco, Grimm, etc. It's a really good record, too, if you don't mind a lot of mean-spirited non-iconic rap. Best is when he goes all narcocorrido in "Esquina".

There's a new Orishas album, produced by Andres Levin (Red Hot + Riot, Super Riddim Internacional, Yerba Buena, ec. cetera ec. ceterea*).

*I know.

It's early 90's, maybe 1990?

― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 12 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

― whatever (nordicskilla), Sunday, 27 March 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"Gasolina" is reggaeton (by Daddy Yankee):

You got reggaeton in my salsa

― RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Sunday, 27 March 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

PITBULL IS GOD.

― miccio (miccio), Sunday, 27 March 2005 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Control Machete, Esperanza.
El Gran Silencio, Decadencia.

― sibsi (sibsi), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...

Gemstar-N-Bigmato: Mucho Tratan

This is really good. Hip-hop, too, not reggaeton. Good beat, nervous squiggly synth lines, good flow.

"Disparale" is also very good although I forget how it goes.

Oh shit, I didn't even notice that someone said "Catullus" right before me - beaten to the joke

― A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

I thought you'd seen my post and were raising the stakes a little. Metamorphoses versus Passer, deliciae meae puellae?

For old-skool, though, you can't do much better than Horace...
