"Rock me, Joe"

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember what song/album it's off of at the moment, but I swear to god there's some Primus song where Les goes "Ler, you're a god-damn BASTARD" and then Ler rips into this fucking monstrous stumbling drunken carnie behind the wheel of a Mack truck guitar solo.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Solo!" in Elastica's "The Bitch Don't Work", which of course is a homage to "Chorus!" in Wire's "Map Reference".

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hetfield says something that sounds like 'VEESAVAY!' before the solo on Master of Puppets. It's pretty cool. I also like it how he says 'Go' in quite a deadpan way before some of the fast bits in their songs.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"Take it, Nils." (Neil Young, "Lookout Joe")

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"Guitar, ready set go." Jonathan Richman to himself (forget the song).

"Take it Lou" - Beginning of a Great Adventure, Lou Reed.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Solo!" in Elastica's "The Bitch Don't Work", which of course is a homage to "Chorus!" in Wire's "Map Reference".

Big & Rich do the same on "Real World".

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave225 is right. I like both the Reed and the U2 cases.

the bellefox, Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The Darkness' "Guitar!" is pretty cool. Also, Matthew Sweet's, "All right" on "Divine Intervention."

phil d., Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Kurt's throaty chuckle and then whiney 'one more solo' on Gallons of rubbing alcohol...

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Angelo yelling "play it goooooldfinger!" leading into the guitar solo on Fishbone's "Party At Ground Zero" has always been one of my favorite parts of that song.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

genuinely great shouts for the guitarist by the vocalist

hey! it's been done!

The drunken introduction PJ Proby gives Jimmy Page on "Mery

There's a lovely superfast solo on the last Primus EP.

Les - Go Ler!!

Les - Thanks Ler!!

"I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for"

--the Pretenders' "Tattooed Love Boys," whereupon the band essays a brief instrumental breakdown and rolls into the late James Honeyman-Scott's polystylicstic scorcher. Seems like Chrissie Hynde makes some other kind of non-verbal exclamation before he goes off, too.

Formerly Lee G (Formerly Lee G), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"'That's alright, I've still got my guitar'

"If I heard mortar shells, we'd cuss more in our songs, and cut down the guitar solos"

Mike Dixon, Friday, 17 September 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know if this is true or not (it means the difference between this one qualifying for the thread), but someone once told me that, while Sting yells "Henri!" before the guitar solo in Fall Out , it's really Stewart Copeland playing it. Apologies if it's a shite rumour, but a great call-out if it isn't.
