Shortest thread ever.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup.
I'm just goin' with the flow.
Cuz I can't think of some snide remark to say.

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

There were a few good songs on the Judgement Night soundtrack.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! No.

Rachel Hella Myles, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

jay-z - 99 problems :p

6335, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh come on, it was OK.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and like every Run-DMC song.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Bring the Noize - Public Enemy/Anthrax

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit, I forgot about the Liscened to Ill album by the Beastie Boys. Sorry, just fatties in shorts come to mind when I think rap rock.

Rachel Hella Myles, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

x-ecutioners new album has some noisy rock rap stuf that swings the boombox in a fine fashion ..

mark e (mark e), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I can think of a couple Run DMC and Rage against the Machine (a lot actually, though by no means all) songs. Some Eminem should count. :>

Wasn't M.O.P. going to come out with a metal album?

(x-post, oh yeah, Beasties, Gratitude and Sabotage should count)

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Nickalicious to thread?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Eminem hasn't made any rap-rock songs, has he?

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

lose yourself seemed rap rock to me.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, a forgotten band called New Kingdom did two albums of wierd rap rock that didn't suck way back when in the mid 90s....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

also, Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Eminem hasn't made any rap-rock songs, has he?

What's that song with the Aerosmith rip?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Bring The Noise by Anthrax/PE is the WORST token "rap rock song that doesn't suck" actually it really sucks fucking badly....they destroy whatever was cool and noisy and wierd about Bring the Noise with riff that DON'T rock half as much as a typical Bizkit/Rage bounce riff and then you have to deal with Scott Ian rapping, who makes Fred Durst et al sound like fucking Jigga....

What's that song with the Aerosmith rip?

Sing for the Moment

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

big & rich, rollin'

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Urban Dance Squad?

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Urban Dance Squad?

Damn! I hadn't thought of them in ages!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i think they probably suck in retrospect though!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck it, Ante Up.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not trying to smear its good name or anything, but that shit ROCKS.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"rapture" by blondie

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree about PE/Anthrax sucking. "White America" is kind of rap-rock, isn't it? What about some of the guitar tracks on Goodie Mob's Still Standing: "Black Ice", esp, also "Distant Wilderness" and "Just About Over"?. Rap-rock doesn't have to be rap-metal. The original "Walk This Way"? "Epic" maybe though I haven't heard it in ages. I'll freely admit to liking some PWEI in high school - "Ich Bin Eis Auslander" wasn't terrible, was it? And definitely "Killing In the Name".

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

also, where's m1ccio? he should be here pimping shifty shellshock!!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

guitars on hip hop tracks - s/d

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

UHH, I'M THE MAN BY ANTHRAX.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Time Zone! Lydon & Bambaataa unheralded nostrodami?

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"In the End"!

"Hey Ya"?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

another one bites the dust, rock box, magnificent seven, adventures of grandmaster flash on the wheels of steel, doriella du fontaine, let it all hang out, reasons to be cheerful pt 3, genius of love, buffalo gals, etc. etc. (and that's just before 1984 or so)

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"Numb"?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The least worst of Nu-Metal

And a bunch of Kid Rock songs qualify for this thread, too, of course.

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And Falco ones, for that matter.

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

And "Subterranean Homesick Blues." And so on.

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

What about rock songs that use a rap beat like "Rocket" by Smashing Pumpkins (one of my favourite SP songs) or MBV?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rocket" has a rap beat? Why, because the snare hits a sixteenth note after the four rather than right on it?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rollin'" is a terrible song!
Me and a friend of mine were poking fun at it - I think cuz my brother liked it.

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Nowell, you are soooooo wrong. And your brother is so right.

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Big & Rich: Album of the Decade?

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit, right?
That song sucks.

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, THAT one does! I thought you mean the other one (see above).

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, we've got that cleared up now.
I haven't heard the song you're talking about. Naturally...

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

there is a song called "one life to live" by a one-off band called Raggadeth. I think Michie Mee was in it. IT ROCKS.
also, it's been on my sl5k wishlist forever. if anyone has it, let me know. i used to have the ep, which also has spooky between-track skits that don't suck.

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

And oh yeah, all the Rammelzee stuff w/ Gettovetts and Death Comet Crew.

chuck, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone make a list of the best rap-rock songs.

Nowell, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I meant "Hummer" instead of "Rocket" actually - the beat in the verses, the quieter parts. It sounds kind of hip-hop to me but I might be delusional.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

"Black rock" by OFX (features members of Saian Supa Crew)
Mark B and Blade "You don't see the signs - Feeder rmx"

Sami (Sami), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like 'Killing in the Name', personally.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

at this point I'd be more curious which rap-rock songs actually suck

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

CLICK ON ME AND LET ME BLOW YOUR MIND

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

is that actually limp bizkit or somebody making fun of them?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

that's limp bizkit dude. from Chocolate Starfish. It's one of the 3 mp3s that were up today and yesterday on The Stypod that I picked as examples of something Over The Top. There's also Queen doing disco-metal and Rocket From The Crypt going nuts with the overdubs.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that track was kind of fun.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

PAY ME NO MIND! I SEEN THE FIGHT CLUB ABOUT 28 TIMES!

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

More rap-rock jams should be dedicated to Ben Stiller.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it would be better if he didn't keep bringing up the "starfish navigation system". It doesn't even rhyme and kind of detracts from the 'flow'.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Does he drop a lot of 70s white trash soft rock references on all his tracks?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but if he didn't bring up the starfish nagiva-shun sys-stum you'd forget about it. And he doesn't want that. Plus he's a renegade riot getting out of control so you have to excuse a little sloppiness.

dude he references everything everywhere. the most recent album had him rockin' his headphones listenin' to the Deftones and easing your pain like a melody from Kurt Cobain while being something like a phenomenon and a microphone fiend.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 September 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Not my usual genre, but I happen to have written a rap/rock anti-Bush song that doesn't suck. Check it out and let me know if you agree. You can download it free @ www.yabbadubyadoo.com ("Dubbin' Dubya" hisself shares vocal duties) Spread the word....PLEASE

bligg-boo, Thursday, 23 September 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe it's a well known fact that Mark E. Smith invented rap, so, like, lots of Fall songs.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 23 September 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

And acid house too, pal!

neil tacus (tacit), Thursday, 23 September 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Killing in the Name Of.." by Rage Against the Machine...if only because it says "fuck" a lot in a vein-poppingly emphatic manner.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rollin" doesn't suck you fucking dick heads.

scg, Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The version of Non-Phixion's "The CIA Is Trying To Kill Me" with those Fear Factory dudes playing on it, that song is HOT SHIT.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Like at least two Candiria songs, too.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rollin" doesn't suck you fucking dick heads.

Yes it does, and consequently YOU SUCK FOR LIKING IT!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

that limp bizquik songs samples fukkin Urban Dance Squad wow.

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

rollin' is pretty fun and silly....

I like Back to School by the Deftones. I like lots of Deftones actually, but most of it doesn't really have much rapping anymore so it prolly doesn't count....

and that "ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EDGE AND IM ABOUT TO BREAAAAK" song by Linkin Park alright too.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Nickalicious OTM about "The CIA is Still Trying To Kill Me" (w/ members of Fear Factory + Deftones). Man, that track is excellent.

ng, Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always thought that Korn's version of "Wicked" with whoever that is guesting on it best represents the genre. Doesn't mean it's really good, but yknow... This is a thread of radically diminished standards.

lemin (lemin), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"No Kid" by Urban Dance Squad completely does not suck. Great song.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody needs to do a mashup of Chamillionaire and Butthole Surfers.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm of the opinion that there are WAY more great "rap songs that ROCK" than great "rock songs with rapping".

I'm basing this on absolutely nothing.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I always liked Faster Pussycat's "Babylon".

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

'I like Back to School by the Deftones. I like lots of Deftones actually, but most of it doesn't really have much rapping anymore so it prolly doesn't count....'

but they never really rapped much to begin with, did they? same with korn. rap-rock's an attitude, man, A STATE OF MIND.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"All Hell's Breakin' Loose" by Kiss (if no one's yet mentioned it) from Lick it up features Paul Stanley "rapping". It's as tragic as it sounds....but the song boasts a nice riff.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Brian Wilson - Smart Girls

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Blondie's 'Rapture'?

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 24 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)
