I can scarcely believe that I am about to write this, but "That's the Way It Is" is surely the best Celine Dion song ever. Nobody can dispute the fact that she has a wonderful voice, but when she uses it to peddle the inane sappiness of "My Heart Will Go On" it makes me cringe the way Whitney Houston once did with "I Will Always Love You". Celine has rediscovered the dance pop side that she abandoned sometime in 1995, just in time to compete with the Jessicas and Christinas of the world.
Eh, she never did become competition for Xtina, did she?

I could never understand all the "Maps" love. People treat it like some exquisite pop genius moment. It always struck me as a half-finished song with a placeholder instrumental break. If you like your Yeah Yeah Yeahs melodic, then "Y Control" would probably be a better candidate...
That said: Trent Reznor / Head Like a Hole.

i disagree. i'd heard and enjoyed it many times before finding out it was B&S. and "tigermilk" is the only B&S album i don't have.
then "Y Control" would probably be a better candidate...
god, no.

No way. It sounds like a strokes song except for the female voice. She definitely makes it better, but can't take credit for the whole track. Julian helps- "You don't have to tell noone cause noone wants to know" is a great line.

I honestly don't know if I've heard all of those tracks or not - which album(s) are they on? Maybe I don't really "hate" B&S (I actually really admire their arrangements on a few songs), but usually their vocal melodies and lyrics rub me the wrong way.
― darin (darin), Monday, 18 October 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)
