Inspired by dancing with my ex girlfriend to these artists early 90s hits at a shitty frat party where the DJ encouraged girls to "go wild" by bareing their titays!

I really can't decide! I love "What is Love" but "Another Night" (hope I got titles right) really got me dancing with the bottom 20% of the IQs at my school!

Haddaway, because of the Metropolis robot video

damian_nz (damian_nz), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 05:11 (twenty years ago)

actually I think that video was for 'life' but yeah.

Haddaway - I actually listen to Haddaway quite a lot, for the kind of record it is.

I absolutely adored "Another Night" - I remember listening to the (ugh) US charts on the radio and kept going "WHEN IS THIS SONG COMING OUT HERE?". Eventually it did, went to #1 and all was right in my world. So, The Real McCoy, although at the time they were "MS Sar vs The Real McCoy" and the second chick they added was not as good.

Nonetheless, "Automatic Lover" is underrated.

Does "A Night at the Roxbury" detract from "What is Love"?

Does "A Night at the Roxbury" detract from "What is Love"?

Yes. A perfectly good pop-house tune mangled by a one-joke sketch.

My money's on "Run Away".

The Real McCoy. To vote otherwise would be INSANIA!

Haddaway had at least four hits, didn't he?

It must be Haddaway

Real McCoy

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:51 (twenty years ago)

"Another Night" is better than anything Haddaway ever did, as is "Automatic Lover" and "Love & Devotion" and "Run Away". The vocalist for MC Sar & The Real McCoy had a great, sprinkly voice, and the rapper was pretty cool too. He even rapped in French on their LP. So MC Sar, no doubt.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Another reason why Haddaway was better is he didn't have an "MC" as part of his act.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 11 November 2004 10:14 (twenty years ago)

Yes, we all know your views on that Geir. But wouldn't you agree that MC Sar & The Real McCoy's hit songs were actually more "melodic" than Haddaway's? "Another Night" is catchy as hell.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 11 November 2004 10:20 (twenty years ago)

"What Is Love" and "Rock My Heart" were almost close to nice songs.

And another good thing, they had a male singer singing all the way, not some guest rapper rapping the verses and some female guest singer singing in the chorus.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 11 November 2004 10:36 (twenty years ago)

I think both are utter shite, but I will defend Geir's right to say that last sentence of his (as above) against all the toy-throwing PC fuckers who wouldn't. Why the hell shouldn't he think that ? There are loads of things that people do in songs I don't like without it making me a something-ist, if that's what you're implying Tuomas (and others before you).

darren (darren), Thursday, 11 November 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

He never should have broken up with Shite.

Actually, only Pash is going to 'get' that one.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 November 2004 15:09 (twenty years ago)

We are talking about someone who considers MCs and hip hop to be a big "problem to music".

x-post

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Thursday, 11 November 2004 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Why aye man, Haddaway and shite, gan doon pub etc etc

(x-post)

darren (darren), Thursday, 11 November 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Barima - fair enough if that is what Geir has said. But, well, taken at face value his comment didn't sound to me any worse than talking about say, Brit boy bands using old rockers or something.

darren (darren), Thursday, 11 November 2004 15:19 (twenty years ago)

you gotta keep the faith and run away.

these words have served me well in my time.
