My Killers CDR is currently rotating around some landfill outside Boston. Sweet, sweet silence, how I love you.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Saturday, 5 February 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody told me that Calum's a jackass

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Saturday, 5 February 2005 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that's not very nice. Why you not being friendly?

C-Man (C-Man), Saturday, 5 February 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The singles sound better and better every time I hear them but the album tracks mean less and less.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 5 February 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

They are increidbly irritating--like Bowling for Soup channeling Interpol--they even do that thing where the guy sings in a monotone with no emotional expression whatsoever, except that whereas when Interpol do it it's suggestive, when the Killers do it (e.g. Mr. Bright Side) it makes me want to kill someone. Maybe the Killers.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Saturday, 5 February 2005 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Bowling for Soup channeling Interpol

I would kill to hear this.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 5 February 2005 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The Killers ARE fab.

"The singles sound better and better every time I hear them but the album tracks mean less and less."

To me, the singles are very equivalent to the other songs on the album. They could have quite a number of hits from this album! (Assuming they're on their way to a third, now, with "Smile Like You Mean It?") Seems to me that tracks 5-8 could all be hit singles, too.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 5 February 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

lots of other songs sound like potential singles, but "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me" have actually increased appeal due to their success. I guess I need a goofy video or something to make the others resonate as strongly.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 5 February 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

My experience is, even if you think it's a pretty good album, it starts to seem even better the more you play it. It's also very energizing, good to go out for a walk (or should I say bimble) with.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 5 February 2005 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

what do you think the odds are of "Smile Like You Mean It" being the next single? I mean it has to be--it's standard practice to release "the ballad" as the third single, right? God, I hope so.

I worry they're gonna be dumb and release "All These Things I've Done" instead.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Saturday, 5 February 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the indie rock n roll number.

C-Man (C-Man), Saturday, 5 February 2005 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

What is wrong with you people? The Killers are the epitome of suck and their inanity will only be surpassed by The Bravery.

Hector Savage, Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

What's your favorite band, Hector? No, wait, let me guess: The Velvet Underground?

Just because Calum likes it and it involves guitars doesn't mean it's this worth getting worked up over.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

wow i hate people

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I people?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

What is wrong with you people? The Killers are the epitome of suck and their inanity will only be surpassed by The Bravery.

This isn't right, no.

(The Bravey do seem like they suck, though)

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 6 February 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to a Killers concert just to see Ratatat. My friend convinced me to stay for the first song, and I had to leave half-way through it, partially due to the volume, partially due to the crappy music they were playing, but mostly due to the ridiculous front man who was wearing his belt buckle-- on his HIP. HOW COOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!

poortheatre (poortheatre), Sunday, 6 February 2005 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Favorite Band Of All-Time?

Spandau Ballet, of course.

HS

Hector Savage, Sunday, 6 February 2005 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Spandau Ballet? For reals? Jeezis.

I went to a Killers concert just to see Ratatat.

Oh for... ugh.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

What's wrong with Ratatat? They put on a great live show. Unlike the Killers, who also put on a great show... a fashion show... with bad music.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Sunday, 6 February 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Their "great live show" better be a metric kilofuckload better than their sub-Trans Am riffplodica schtick on record. I'm a complete mark for dudes comining techno shit with hard rock shit and I couldn't make myself care about 'em, so that's saying something.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that I give a hell of a lot of toss about their entire album, which I ain't heard, but "Somebody Told Me" is a better single than anything put out by any other band mentioned on this thread yet. Except the VU.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, I give. "Mr. Brightside" kinda kicks ass.

Un investigador del siglo XXI (AaronHz), Sunday, 6 February 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they are OK. I've said as much even on the Noize Board! And I didn't even get banned. Quite frankly, I thought I *might* have gotten banned for expressing that sentiment. but I didn't. Anyway, yeah .. they are actually pretty decent. Pretty good rock band, all told. The singer needs to improve, but that is a symtom of every rock band early on. Well, a lot of them, at least. OK, not only the singing, but also the lyrics -- they are pretty brutal. But yeah, these guys are ok. I have no problem. They've got a nice sound.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 6 February 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, if you thought I was serious that Spandau Ballet is my favorite band of all-time, then you aren't very clever.

But then again you've been extolling the virtues of The Killers.

hector savage, Sunday, 6 February 2005 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only heard a couple of tracks, and they just sound totally ordinary & run of the mill.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Sunday, 6 February 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"Mr Brightside" is the Official Theme Song of Me 2004.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 6 February 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

they sound like Shed 7

Un investigador del siglo XXI (AaronHz), Sunday, 6 February 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine needs to be released if they are doing another single. Half of the album is dismally forgettable, and half is fantastic. They should have written more songs and left it a while. though I imagine they're counting their money and laughing about this.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Sunday, 6 February 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Crackity OTM. Jenny Was a friend of Mine is brilliant. I also like Mr Brightside and Somebody told Me. Most of the rest of it is pretty risible really. I don't suppose I'll buy their 2nd album, assuming they release them, coz bands that combine crap bits and good bits always seem to dispense with the good bits second time around.

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 6 February 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

but mostly due to the ridiculous front man who was wearing his belt buckle-- on his HIP. HOW COOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!

Oh gosh, no.

i actually think the killers are ok. i was dancing drunkenly to them last night.

"Somebody Told Me" is great.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 6 February 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i like them a lot. although im tired of hearing it out at parties

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 6 February 2005 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr Brightside is Godly.

C-Man (C-Man), Sunday, 6 February 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

And "Jenny" should be a single next.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone see the Top 100 videos last night? Jenny was used extensively as background music. Lovely.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Monday, 7 February 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That's why.
