Woah, the original Dinosaur trio lineup is reuniting. For at least one show, anyway.

The seminal college rock band, whose influence can be seen today in bands like Nine Black Alps and Biffy Clyro,

Who?

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

I hope someone requests "The Freed Pig"!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

You never know, they might play that one. Remember J. Macsis helped Kim Deal record a cover of that song a few years back.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

Isn't that song Lou's admission of how fucked-up he was?? I never got this "ooh, it's a big kiss-off!" thing at all. It's not, like, a "Positively 4th Street"-style fuck-you, more like a personal apologia.

btw i listened to this song like 10 times last night-

TS: SEBADOH VS. HELMET vs. DEAD C VS. SEBADOH

(BBT might get a kick out of that thread)

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

dude, stormy d, appreciate one bitter sarcasm!

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

I don't know dude, I mean, given how simpy Barlow presents himself at times, a straight reading seemed plausible to me. But then I never really followed the Dino saga that closely TBH. Is it like a point-by-point refutation of things Mascis said in interviews or something? Cuz maybe I missed that context then.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

yoo indie doodz are funny with yer lou barlow talk. i wanna put yoo in my pocket. awwwwww.....

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

scott seward buy me a kitten

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

and stormeee,
i am not sure, honestly. i never took it as an honest song. the tone of his voice is downright acidic. then again, i haven't listened to III in years. i will put it in the changer now, though, and get back to you (prob on the noise board thread; it will be a few hours.)

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

Scott u r the Pixies #1 fan!! i don't even own a single Sebadoh full-length! Leave me in peace with my 7"s!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

DEEP WOUND!!!!!!!!!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Have I ever said anything about the Pixies on ILM? I hope not. I like them, but they are waaaaaaay too boring to talk about.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

ewww, i have. don't look. it isn't pretty.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

are Fudge Tunnel not boring? I can't remember. I do likes me some Godflesh though.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

i'm convinced that half the stoner metal bands around today are only ripping off fudge tunnel's version of sunshine of your love and nothing else. half the southern lord roster at least.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Off topic now, but ...
From that NME article, that DOWNLOAD festival sounds like complete and utter shit. Billy Idol is headlining a stage?

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Thursday, 3 March 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

re the great "freed pig" lyric controversy: you could easily read that lyric as being completely sarcastic and acidic on one hand, or honest and self-deprecating on the other ... until the last lines of the song:

your big head has that more room to grow
a glory i will never know

i don't see how that can come across as anything but a total "fuck you," and it's always colored how i hear the rest of the song.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 3 March 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

i don't understand how opening for bily idol convinced them to make nice.

i recall hearing that Lou's mother organized some sort of benefit (in North Hampton maybe) a few months back where both Lou and J and the Fog played. The story was that when his mom asked/demanded Lou play she had already booked J. I love the idea of Lou's mother being heart-broken over the end of their friendship and tricking them into being friends again ... like some wierd spin on the parent trap

b b, Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

It's actually done by Six Finger Satellite! But Sebadoh had enough sense of humor to include it as a bonus track on the "Soul and Fire" Cd-single

donut debonair (donut), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

but it's lou barlow talking, obviously. how could it be 6fs?

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

MURPH!!!

yeah, that's definitely gaffney and lou. they would play that track before they'd come out in the early 90s.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

i'm pretty sure i heard that track before 6FS had formed.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

btw Lou and Kath have had a baby! Welcome Hannelore Barlow* into the world!

*I shit you not

miccio (miccio), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Did either Donut or I ever mention the story about how we know the guy who sold an Optigan to Kath?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

The original line-up? That's great! I'm definitely going to check this out.
