latebloomer: correspondingly more exaggerated mixing is a scarifying error. (lat, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

"Don't Believe the Truth" is an extremely daft emo-sounding title.

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

In the middle of the night
When the sun was bright
Two dead boys came out to fight
Back to back, they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot one another
A deaf policeman heard this noise
And came and shot those two dead boys
If you don't believe this lie, it's true
Ask the blind man, he saw it too.

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

exactly. it should be the title for an emo album or an X-Files movie or something.

i see these stupid NME headlines, and somehow, SOMEHOW my mind still wants to get excited.

on his most recent stand up album, Chris Rock begins a comedy bit about rap by saying that the music you listened to at the age you first started fucking is the music you are stuck with for life. so it will always be for me and the Gallagher Brothers, as i watch them release albums with titles Lenny Kravitz would shudder at.

sigh.

JD from CDepot, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:21 (twenty years ago)

maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but you lost your virginity to OASIS!?

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:22 (twenty years ago)

ummm not exactly.

come on, be nice, i was young (12-13), i was making out with girls for the first time, and Whats the Story (morning glory) always seemed to be on the stereo. i guess the music took on some sort of epic granduer.

youve never felt that way about a band?

JD from CDepot, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

even when deep down you should know better?

JD from CDepot, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

Oasis did feel special for a few months in the mid 90s. But I was really drunk.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

I think Rock's joke makes more sense for (very) casual music listeners.
(ok ok ok, I bought the Nirvana box set)

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

I never thought pogoing to Oasis was possible.

Ian Riese-Moraine pogoes like a bastard (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I don't think Rock's statement is true at all. The music you listened to when you first started *drinking* etc, I might be more inclined to agree with

DJ Mencap0))), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm still inexplicably fond of Bauhaus.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

It's a way better title than the last working title. Which I forget right now.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Lyla? oof.

This is the third thread about the new Oasis album

New Oasis Album, does ANYONE still care?
New Oasis Album in May 2005

It's good to see that a healthy dose of cynicism runs through each of them.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
I've just heard it and 'Lyla' is fucking HORRIBLE.

Next time, just recording some drunken 30-somethings shouting at a football match on TV in a pub and release that instead.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

I still like Morning Glory and Definitely Maybe, and I think I always will. The fact that everything after has been FUCKING UNSPEAKABLY RUBBISH has not marred my love for those first two. I might go see them in June.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Definitely Maybe is a great album, but it's too fucking hard to convince anyone of that because of everything they did after that.

Here's a bit of it:

I've heard the whole album and, frankly, it's fucking rubbish. It makes the last two seem good. Mucky Fingers is the worst thing Oasis have ever produced. There's fuck all melody and fuck all guitars. Astonishingly bad.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Five stars in the Observer Music Monthly...
