Do a Starz thread people! New reissues on Rykodisc.

The Ryko's do not include "Piss Party" and, therefore, are incomplete. A Starz catalog must include "Piss Party," it being a performance to rival the crassness of "Pull the Plug" and "Subway Terror."

OK. Here's what ya want. Definitely the first, prob'ly the second. Shun "Attention Shoppers." If the first two float your boat a great deal, proceed to "Coliseum Rock."

I only have the self-titled one. I love "Detroit Girls" (both the song and the actual article!)

(I was wondering why there was a STARZ thread on ILM...)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

When I was in The Quick some lunatic booker had us open for them at a 3,000 seater.

We reacted by accenting our last song with the singer dragging out a shopping cart filled with rotting garbage which he threw boisterously at the crowd.

Who threw it right back at me. My guita was silenced with rotting ham sandwich.

When they did a LONG version of "Pull the Plug", the singer would gyrate and sorta rub his crotch. I thought this a robust combination of signifiers.

Astute.

best songs on starz: monkey business, live wire, pull the plug, detroit girls

best songs on violation: cool one, s.t.e.a.d.y., rock six times, violation

best songs on attention shoppers!: i forget, which might mean george is right about the album above (though i still tend to think he underrates it) -- maybe good ale we seek? x-ray-spex? johnny all alone?

best songs on colliseum rock: i totally forget; the orignal CD release of that one is in my closet somewhere. i liked it, but kinda got the idea that they stodgified into more orthodoxy by then, and lost their weirdassed personality. george, am i wrong about that?

"Good Ale We Seek" was the only thing about "Attention Shoppers" that led you to think it might develop into a good album. But that and "X-Ray Spex" were about as far as it went. There was a good Starz collection on New Renaissance a few years ago and it was kinder to "Shoppers" than me.

"Colisseum Rock" -- hmm, I think I wrote party rock too late for the party to you a couple weeks ago. Which is about the same thing as you get at. Starz now sounded merely typical. "Colisseum Rock" was an instro and the most recognized because they used it a lot live to start the wrap-up of their shows. It goes right into "It's A Riot" which prob'ly makes that song by default the "best" cut from the LP/DC.

So why has no one commented that "Pull the Plug" is the best thematic music, evah and RIGHT NOW for the evening news? Come to think of it, when I wrote that thing to you the Republicans hadn't yet made right to life an around the clock national show-stopper. Starz! Someone should overnite copies into the Fox Network. It's instant outrage waiting to happen.

>why has no one commented that "Pull the Plug" is the best thematic music, evah and RIGHT NOW for the evening news?<

I did, George! A couple days ago (though nobody on the following thread seems to have noticed the brilliance of my choice). See here:

TERRI SCHIAVO ... what's on yer walkman/ipod?

You don't look the same in an oxygen tank!

xhuxk, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was oxygen tent. Anyway, that cinches it. All the people in the Terry Schiavo thread are completely lame. Since they don't know anything of hard rock before 1992, the have nothing which bare knuckles-wise can compete with "Pull the Plug." So if you don't have the reissues or want to sample Starz, the first place you must start is with "Pull the Plug." And then you'll be right into "Boys In Action" with "when we cum it tastes just like a milkshake," at which point it will be time to start a thread:

Why Starz were closeted gays, and that's pretty ironic...

Truly I am educated and I thank you both. :-)

Starz is playing live in Philly in a few months!
Can they be worth seeing at this stage of the game?
