meaning your own band or any band you like

sometimes you want to see music somewhere specific and not just in a bar or presented as a show etc. wondering if anyone's seen any cool shows at unothodox places or any unothodox presentations by bands or just dreamings of what could happen

True: a friend of mine is gearing up to play a chapel at Brooklyn's Green-Wood cemetery. It was originally supposed to be a double bill of him and Michael Gira but Gira dropped out. So they need a headliner. But the show is, in fact, happening.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 21 April 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

I tried to arrange a show on the Washington State ferry. Couldn't get enough people together to make it work, but it would have been fun!

mike a, Thursday, 21 April 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

I always wanted to play a show at my old summer camp's playhouse. Unfortunately it was demolished 15 years ago.

mike a, Thursday, 21 April 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

I would like all my favorite bands to perform in my living room. If you're reading this, bands, I've got a nice P.A. & some amps and mics.

Yngwie AlmsteenMay (sgertz), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

I'll play in your living room. But I'm probably not your favorite band.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 22 April 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 22 April 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

xxpost -- We played a party at my parents' house. And I don't mean like, our first gig, when we were 15. I mean like a year or two ago.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 22 April 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

i need to understand was xpost means finally. like out of time post? or responding to something specific post? or responding to a past specific post?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 22 April 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

That you're responding to the post before last. two x's mean two posts before the last. There- I've revealed the secret, I supposed I will be cast out on the ice-floe now.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 22 April 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

why i couldn't figure that out? i don't know. thx for telling me

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 22 April 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

okay, but what does pwnz mean? like owns? not to totally change the feel of this thread, i'll say that someone told me they saw radiohead play a canyon once, i think. if that is made up, well then I take credit for it. although u2 is probably planning to play the grand canyon sometime soon. fuckers!

Dave M, Friday, 22 April 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

x-post: it means "on the mark." other pleasant variations i've seen include offtm, otfm (fucking), and my favorite: offtfm

Dave M, Friday, 22 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

As much as it seems like it wouldn't have been my scene, those Kyuss shows out in the canyons have always sounded like they would've have been pretty bitchin'.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

on top of a building in the middle of a metropolitan city

I did this once! The Ninjas, Kumari and I all played on the roof of a friend's midtown Manhattan apartment. It was incredible - I remember the sound bouncing off the nearby buildings.

mike a, Friday, 22 April 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

I want to play on a stage on a dock to an audience of swimming, boating, fun-having lake-goers!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 April 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I'd just like to share a special bummer by saying I always wanted my Jacques Dutronc cover band to play Windows on the World, the swell bar on the top floor of the WTC. Then the unthinkable happened -- our guitar player moved to LA.
