So what does your mother call you? Loggie? I really like the homophobic namecalling. Very original. But not as original as your email address!

No, it's actually just very wide and VERY pink!

Imagine an ILx stripped of the five or six misanthropes who constantly make these boards an unpleasant read. It's easy if the moderators try.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 April 2005 06:58 (twenty years ago)

Deal. Enjoy wallowing in your anger, ignorance and hatred. You waste. You little man.

But now his ass is so lonely. He needs some tender loving care.

nathalie in a bar under the sea (stevie nixed), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

I agree with Marcello. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one sick of these Americans polluting our board.

what if youre american and arent proud of it?
also milquetoast? WTF? talk about complete opposite ends of the dis spectrum fag and milquetoast. the only thing linking them is the immasculation they project not on the one getting called the name but the caller. how do we know hes american though? simply because hes annoying.

jmeister (jmeister), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

for reals. Hussein was knocking on freedom's door saying, "I'm here with pizza...of doom!" Fuck, you think he would have stopped with the nukes we found lined up outside of Baghdad? Fuck no. First us, then London. and the french, er, the FREEDOMS wanted to stop us. Fuck them.

Absolutely everyone is welcome to go there, and I mean EVERYONE, with the caveat that if people don't treat others with a certain amount of respect they will be unceremoniously struck off the register; the software's ability to trace people's IP addresses will mean they'll be unable to sidle in with another avatar.

ILx could learn a lot from Dissensus.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

Maybe all you sherlocks out there should go unravel the Bush / Bin Laden ties!

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

More wisdom from elsewhere:

They'd just have to work hard (for free!) to share all their cherished insider knowledge with a bunch of ignominious twats. Put up with the fist-pounding of self-obsessed pompous little pricks still tied to their mother's apron strings, the nit-picking of ineffectual sociopaths, the inconsiderate hollow and coarse baying of snobs and gluttons, all the time trying (rather pathetically) to hold onto the idea that treating other people with respect is the only way to make the world a better place.

i mean, i have a lot of time for the other three albums, and my favourite couple of songs are on The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified, but Emergency & I just really stands out from the rest.

Lee F# (fsharp), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

As this thread has already and sadly demonstrated, there are two posters in particular whose forcible removal from these boards would make ILx a far more pleasant place to visit and might even bring back some of the old regulars who wisely bailed out ages ago.

But since no one appears to have the guts to do so, no doubt ILx will continue to deteriorate into a desert where one has to plough drily through 500 threads by American college dorks to find one worth reading or contributing to.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

We'll miss you Marcello! Bye!

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

And I assume you mean "C-Man" and "J0n Williams"

1) C-Man is funny 30% of the time. Ignore him. You hate fun if you can't get over it

2) What the fuck are you talking about. Get a life.

3) whine more.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 28 April 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

ILM has become REALLY unpleasant (which it wasn't when I got here back in the Greenspun days) and it has absolutely nothing to do with either the C-Man or a noize d00d.

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

oh man this thread has me in stitches. Fucking brilliant.

Just what ILM needed, really.

What is it, then, Daria (fwiw, I sort of agree, though I think c*l*m did have a bad effect on the board)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Dude, Calum has so many funny threads. I mean... he is a HUGE dick to a bunch of people, but:

If Godzilla was trashing your town or city and you only had Bubba Smith, Vanilla Ice, Chris Martin and Gene Wilder to take him on in a fight , would you give up all hope or give it a go for the sake of humanity?

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

The only funny calum threads are the ones where he gets j-pwn3d!! (IE a lot of them, I suppose)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

His subject lines are pure flights of fancy! I LOLed! I ROFLMAOed!

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

If C-Man is still here after all the abuse he has (often deservedly) received, I beleive it's because he's part provacateur (feeding a self-image as bad boy) and part martyr (feeding a self-image as maligned, misunderstood, and superior) and that talking about how nefarious his influence on these boards is, is about as useful as throwing gasoline on a smoldering fire.

Also, thanks for the finely articulated, pinpoint-accurate calumny against an entire nation of people upthread. It was very uplifting and provided an ideal example of good board etiquette.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

oh come on guys, you shouldn't let stupid message board shit get to you. just like the real world, there are a bunch of assholes everywhere, but at least it makes you appreciate your friends more. just ignore the bullshit and go on with your lives. gotta think positive.

Vestigial Appendages, Esq. (King Kobra), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

he's not huge, is he?
-- rogers broseph (power.strik...), April 28th, 2005.

isn't Anthony like 6'4" or something? it kinda freaks me out that he's at most the 3rd tallest person on my blog roll.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

talking about how nefarious his influence on these boards is, is about as useful as throwing gasoline on a smoldering fire

otm. this is remedial math.

there was a period of 3-4 months there where people actually weren't responding to calum, and guess what, he went away. then he came back, goaded a lot of people into responding to some of his inanity (see: the andrea dworkin thread) and now we're back to square one. if you're one of those people who humors him by constantly replying to his threads (even if it's to call him a name or try and put him in his place), you've waived your right to complain. this is remedial math.

my suggestion: start a calum pledge thread. by posting there once you are publicly vowing never to post on or click on one his threads again. its a promise that from here on out, the only way you will participate is by watching his threads sink to the bottom.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Pashmina.. Well, first off, DESTROY every comment beginning with "hahaha" that assumes everyone keeps a revolving mental file of ILM personalities and their various musical preferences and argument styles. DESTROY most of the comments that exist only to roll eyes at everyone else. Oh, and DESTROY most of the dick-waving= list-making threads & "I have never heard of bands beginning with ___" and related. None of this really tells me anything interesting about music..

It's often like hanging out with a bunch of guys who converse entirely in quotes from a film you've never seen and don't have the manners to do otherwise.

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

it amazes me that the focus of this thread managed to shift to Calum being the problem child here.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I know this fellow who communicates by comparing real-life situations to episodes of "The Simpsons" or to scenes from James Bond films. Also, he claims he wouldn't date anyone who dislikes Alfred Hitchcock films.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I'd say he was me in middle school but I was never into Bond.

Yeah, I'm 6'4" in a scene where evidently 6' 2" makes you "Pee Wee."

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

and I'm hard-pressed to think of a cynical white male american my age who doesn't compare life to The Simpsons on a frequent basis.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

(slightly embellished real-life conversation)

GUY: Man, my car kept breaking down on the expressway this morning!
ME: WHY DAT
GUY: I'm not sure. (laughs) It reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons, you know?
ME: SURE
GUY: Remember when Homer kept stopping on the road and checking out new billboards and all those cars kept hitting each other behind him and catching fire?
ME: VAGUELY
GUY: (laughs) It was sort of like that! D'oh! (laughs)
ME: WERE YOU LOOKING AT BILLBAORDS
GUY: No, I was trying to get my car going. I was really pissed. So it was sort of like the Simpsons, only not funny. (laughs)
ME: SO NOT LIKE THE SIMPSONS AT ALL THEN, EH
GUY: No I guess not.

My cynical white male american friends seem to have progressed beyond The Simpsons to talk of poker tournaments and fantasy baseball. Maybe if I move back to their city, sometimes they would go see a show if it wasn't a work night and a friendly NPR band was in town. C OOH LALA

Re LAIMBEER, that's a Coogi sweater from Australia and they are not only butt-ass ugly, but also crazy expensive. I bought one for $5 a thrift and sold it on teh eBay for $100 a few weeks ago.

Last night on RI public access TV was a wrestling show with a tag team bout between two guys in yellow beetle costumes and two guys in.. I think they were wolf costumes, but I'm not completely sure. Well, it gives me something to talk about tonight at the bar before I get dragged out to see some art-y theater project..
