strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

p.s. i have never really been able to distinguish what separates deep house from lots of other types of house.

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

"Love Revolution (Mood II Swing Remix 2)" - Mysterious People

i really love some of that deep dish stuff, though.

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah me too. The 'Cream Separates' mix is probably my favourite deep house mix having stayed with me so long. But I suppose their earlier mixes are better in a way.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

(the Cream Separates compilation is fucking EIGHT years old as it is...)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

Is there a place online where I could download me a set of this deep house?

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

I am guessing www.deephousepage.com/mixes.php

Rob Uptight (Rob Uptight), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

thanks rob, the selection on that page is baffling, have you heard any of them, any recommendations for a novice?

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

the D Double signal (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

You want to listen to DEEP HOUSE for when you're taking DEEP ANAL, you faggot!

Hustla Nation, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

You guys need to go check out bbs.fuckedcompany.com and see where else your Mr. Adolph bin Streisand has been posting. He's been on that board for quite a while, trolling along as though he was some kind of player or some other silly shit. For example:

http://bbs.fuckedcompany.com/index.cgi?okay=get_topic&topic_id=1860805

Topic: FACT: BLACKS/NESIANS/LATINOS/AZNS CANNOT BE RACIST TO WHITES

FACT: BLACKS/NESIANS/LATINOS/AZNS CANNOT BE RACIST TO WHITES 06/16/05 03:29 pm
IT'S ONLY RACISM WHEN WHITES DO IT TO MINORITIES. I'LL CALL YOU A PECKERWOOD TO YOUR FACE SON, BUT IF YOU CALL ME A NIGGA, I WILL BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF YOU THEN SUE YOU IN COURT.

FCUser, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Hey, anybody got consulting work for me?

Spamky, Thursday, 16 June 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't recommend anyone to check out fuckedcompany.com. What a bunch of tossers.

mjfan, Thursday, 16 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

"really love some of that deep dish stuff, though."

Jess did you end up checking out their first album?? It's good!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 16 June 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Marshall Jefferson - Mushrooms
(Both the original and the salt city orchestra remix).

Bn1, Friday, 17 June 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Seconded.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 17 June 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

i could spend a week coming up with answers to this question.

how about: freaks - "turning orange (2 please u)" (losoul remix)

that's my current #1 deep house track.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 17 June 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

turn me loose - wally jump jnr & criminal element orchestra
reachin - um, blaze?

as i remember deep house was that kind of vocal house that sounded like updated philly - but has the definition changed? i seem to have lost track

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 17 June 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

xpost - ps tim i got those two MFF mixes today!! (the johnny rock / matt styles comp you rec'd and the bad acid mix)

vahid (vahid), Friday, 17 June 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

Overview - "Work it out" (Muzique tropique remix)
Jaymz Nylon - "I know a place" (Shades of black remix)
Masterbuilders - "Brazil"
Sun People - "Revelation"
Dajae - "Day by day" (Ron and Chez vocal mix)

"Reachin" is by Phase II and is one of the finest vocal dance records ever made. The Latin Workout mix is the one to look for.

Deep house has meant a whole bunch of things in its time - late 80s it meant dubby acid-y stuff like "Acid thunder" then after a while it meant anything disco-y or jazzy. When subliminal et al started inflicting "funky house" on us deep house meant slightly off-kilter stuff like Pagan or Paper recordings, which shaded into tech-house.

Deep house has been tarred with the "dad-house" label for the last few years ever since Naked music made it all coffee table and boring but I think it's due for a bit of a revival - all that overtly spiritual late 90s stuff with the bongos is great.

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

dr bob type stuff

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:20 (twenty years ago)

i liked dr bob. is he still about?

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

Carlos Sanchez Movement - Love & Respect (Joe's Spiritual Healing Version)!!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

my wife loooved dr bob. i assume he's still around.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 17 June 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

I must repeat how much of a classic "Deep Burnt" is. This thread has got me playing it again.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 17 June 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

weirdly enough re dr bob i just got the cd vers ofthis. couple of years old.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 17 June 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

Listen to mixes here:

http://www.spiritofhouse.com/

I started a page about Kerri Chandler a few weeks back that stalled out at two posts. He's my favorite.

L'Histoire d'Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 17 June 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

xpost:

What's the 11 minute long track entitled "we lift our hands in the sanctuary" like? Looks like it ought to be amazing...

non xpost:

Kerri Chandler kills it. Nobody else programmed drums that way when he was at his peak. I loved his really minimal garage stuff but wasn't so sure about the jazzier later tracks. Have you heard that Bar-A-Thym track?

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 17 June 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

DubTribe - "Do It Now"

Mr Fingers - "Can U Feel It (instrumental)"

Deep Dish "Summers Over"

and Marshall Jefferson "Mushrooms (Salt City Orchestra remix)

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Friday, 17 June 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

Have you heard that Bar-A-Thym track?

I don't believe so. Do you want to put a link up on the YSI thread for me? (Please?)

L'Histoire d'Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

if The Other People Place count, 'Sorrow And A Cup Of Joe' has echoes of 'Deep Burnt'.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

Deep Dish "Summers Over"

If this is the track I'm thinking of, Deep Dish played it in the middle of their essential mix a few years ago. So, so good.

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Moodymann "Black Mahogani" album
itz a master piece

Another Allnighter (sexyDancer), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

"a few years ago"

I just looked it up and that mix is from '98! Is the essential mix still going? I've sort of been neglecting all things dance for a couple of years so I'm really of out of touch. (seeking out these recommendations.)

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

yeh it's still going strong - Mylo and Tom Middleton did some good ones recently.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Ah, cool.

Oh, see also: the track that comes right before "Summer's Over" in that mix, which unfortunately is listed only as: David Alvarado - "untitled" (Yoshitoshi). Maybe something from his Sunkiss EP, dunno. I'm trying to find it now.

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 23 June 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

My two faves:

Round Two 'New Day' (main street)
and
Sunday Brunch 'Midsummer Day' (svek)

tylero (tylero), Thursday, 23 June 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

Ooh I forgot my favourite: Powder Productions' "Skyline"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 23 June 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Round Two 'New Day' (main street)
best song ever! More like this please! Or more like Frankie Knuckles' "Tears"!

What's the rest of the Dubtribe stuff like?

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

phonique and erland oye: 'for the time being'. in fact most of dessous records is worth a look for the deep.

jack, Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Mayaku - Omnidirectional
It sparkles, sways, folds and twists for 10 groovy minutes.

Stephen Stockwell (Stephen Stockwell), Thursday, 30 June 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

lil louis vega and lil louis (aka lou2) - freaky
sandee - notice me
hercules - 7 ways to jack

DEEP HOUSE!

admrl, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 01:41 (eighteen years ago)

a basement, a red light, and a feeling

elan, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 06:24 (eighteen years ago)

Whatever the first Circulation album was, is what I want "deep house" to mean.

rockapads, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

Dennis Ferrer's "Transitions" will probably end up a top ten song of the year for me (although I know it was originally released last year). I love how it manages to be classy and druggy simultaneously.

Tim F, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

Moodymann

Mr. Goodman, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

d*note - garden of earthly delights (kumo mix) (though i've still yet to find a copy of this other than the version that is on harvey's ministry mix)

r1o natsume, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

rockapads, you mean joshua michaels? i didn't know he had an album out. please tell.
