The new Buck 65 album with contributions from D-Styles and members of Tortoise comes out on the 28th. Are you as excited as I am? Or overcome with dread, perhaps? Or even ambivalent? Indifferent? Have you seen the print ad where he's holding a cane? Are you still pissed he said he hated hip-hop?

Bah, the album title was supposed to be in italics. . .

La Monte (La Monte), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

the print ads for those are absolutely atrocious.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

for this, i mean.

I spoke to him a few months ago and he said he recorded the entire album in Chicago with John Herndon from Tortoise. He also said he's written a few rhymes in French (He lives in Paris, now, and has a French fiancee as opposed to just knowing some offhand French from the French-Canadians). Rich is a very intense man.

Woo-hoo!
He's playing a bunch of Cdn folk festivals this summer. I hope he brings his band this time!

Huk-L, Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

seriously you guys. if you see any of these ads you will never want to listen to this stuff again.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

maybe that's exaggerating a little, and i'm not saying anything about the music--but it's a TERRIBLE ad campaign.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Do you mean the ones in the current Exclaim where it's all "People say I'm the hip hop Tom Waits. I can deal."

Huk-L, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

YES

(i haven't seen the current exclaim but there's those ones in my local alt-weekly)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

i mean wtf

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

are these the ones where he's holding up a cane and covering his left eye with its handle?

La Monte (La Monte), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

no, they're text only, with unbelievably dumbass quotes from buck 65

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

"If Pac-Man was in a back alley knife fight with the Bride of Frankenstein, and I was rapping over it, it would sound a little bit like my new record."

Huk-L, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

"Ben Franklin once said that a penny earned is a penny saved. I don't know about that, but I do eat a lot of pancakes."

Huk-L, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

He's Buck 65 aka Stinkin' Rich aka Richard Terfry aka Jack Handy.

La Monte (La Monte), Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Just for the record, I made up all those quote, but they retain the spirit, if not the earnestness, of the originals.

Huk-L, Thursday, 16 June 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Will it be out in America?!

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

I don't think it's being released in the States until autumn.

La Monte (La Monte), Thursday, 16 June 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Well I'm excited about it.

Incidentally, got far more money than I expected in Music & Video exchange for a load of "Wicked and Weird" white labels I had lying around.

ten months pass...
You're all fools.
Buck 65 is amazing regardless, and his new album is different, but it's still the same ol' intense Terfry stuff.
